Obituary of Mario L. Accornero

Mario L. Accornero, 96, of South Glastonbury, husband of the late Jean (Warren) Accornero, died Sunday, January 22, 2023, at home surrounded by his family. Born November 23, 1926, in Brooklyn, New York, son of the late Sebastian and Teresa Accornero, he lived in South Glastonbury from age 6. He owned and operated Accornero Orchards in South Glastonbury.  He was an active member of the Glastonbury Fire Department, rising to the rank of Chief.  Upon retirement, he was named Chief Emeritus and remained active until age 85.  He was a life-long member of the Glastonbury Grange, No. 26, and a past master of Daskam-Columbia Lodge No. 25 A.F. & A.M.  Mario is survived by his 5 children, Louis Accornero of South Glastonbury, Jane Stewart of Newington, Susan Lemke of South Glastonbury, Ann Posuniak (Dan) of Glastonbury and Laura Didden of Glastonbury, his grandchildren, and their spouses, Matt and Kristi Accornero, Meghan and Tim Bordieri, Brian and Eloanna Didden, Andrew Didden, PJ and Kristina Lemke, Tommy Posuniak, Jessica and Bobby Brown, Tom and Amanda Stewart and his 5 great-grandchildren Callie and Olivia Accornero, Ryan Brown, Reagan and Morgan Stewart. He also leaves his daughter-in-law Theresa Breen and her husband Joseph, beloved friends Tom Breen, Steve Ruff, Tim Elliott, Rich Quagliaroli, Donna Richards Walstedt, and his beloved dogs Lexi and Lola.  He was predeceased by his Sister Angela Maestri and Sons-in law Paul Lemke and Robert Stewart.  The family would like to thank Fatou Musa MBoob and Stephney Wilson for their exemplary service during Mario’s final days.  The funeral service will be Thursday, Jan. 26, at 11 am in St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 915 Main St., South Glastonbury. Burial in Old Church Cemetery will be private. Friends may call at the Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury, on Wednesday, Jan. 25, from 4-7 pm.
