Obituary of Albert G. Woynar

Albert G. Woynar, 90, of Glastonbury passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 19, 2023 at Baystate Medical Center. He was the beloved husband of Irene (Landry) Tomkievich Woynar.

Born in Colchester, he was the son of the late George and Anna (Koss) Woynar. Al attended schools in Colchester and Portland as well as Vocational Trade school in Middletown. He volunteered for service in the U.S. Army Reserves in 1951 and served overseas where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. Al was honorably discharged in 1957. He was employed by Southern New England Telephone Company and retired in 1987 after 30 years of employment. Al then accepted a position at preformed Line Products where he was employed as a Field Sales Manager until his retirement in 2007. He was a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Al was a member of the American Legion Post #56 in Glastonbury. He was a member and past Exalted Ruler of Elks Lodge 2202 in Glastonbury. Al was the director of the award-winning Portland Ancient Fife and Drum Corps.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Michael Woynar and his wife MaryLou, his three honorary sons Richard, David and Joseph Tomkievich, his grandson Maxwell M. Woynar, two granddaughters Jennifer and Jacqueline Woynar, three honorary granddaughters Courtney (Tomkievich) Weeks and her husband Wade, Caitlyn Tomkievich, Nicole Tomkievich and her fiance Lee Smutnick as well as his brother Robert Woynar and his wife Sharon. Al was predeceased by two sons Brian and Steven Woynar.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at 10:00 am at Ss. Isidore and Maria Parish at St. Paul Church, 2577 Main St., Glastonbury. Burial will be in the Swedish Cemetery, Portland. Friends may call on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 from 8:30 am to 9:30 am at Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury.
