Obituary of Debra A. Korper

Debra “Debbie” A. (Hesse) Korper, 80, of South Glastonbury passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of Leslie “Les” E. Korper II.

Born in Hamden, on October 22, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Ethel (Barnes) Hesse. Debbie worked for many years as an Administrator for a local physician group.

Debbie and Les met as teenagers summering in Guilford, CT.  They were married in 1963.  In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter Robin Tracy and her husband Timothy of MA, her son David Korper and his wife Christine of Glastonbury, her grandchildren Nathan and Nicole Tracy and Emily and Owen Korper.

Debbie was deeply committed to her church and to serving her community.  Throughout her life, she volunteered at First Church of Christ.  An avid gardener, she was recently awarded an Honorary Membership in the Glastonbury Garden Club.  She performed truly outstanding long-term service to the club, having been an active and valuable member for 46 years.  She served as club president, co-president, vice-president, and secretary.

Debbie has served on the Conservation, Civic, Garden Therapy, Horticulture, Nomination, and Program committees.  In addition, she has chaired the Cheer, Finance, Garden Mart, and Membership committees.  She has also served as the club’s historian, auditor, and club representative to the Glastonbury Council of Garden Clubs.  Debbie was awarded a life membership in the Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut in 2000.

The Glastonbury Garden Club was established in 1947 and is the oldest garden club in town.

Debbie enjoyed socializing with her countless friends, participating in card groups, book groups, and bowling clubs.  She is grateful to her friends for the many years of shared memories and the support and care she received from them.

Debbie was especially devoted to her children and grandchildren.  She enjoyed cheering them on in their activities and celebrating holidays with them.
