Obituary of Susana Herrick

Susana (Barraza) Herrick, D.M.D., 44, of Glastonbury passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, June 24, 2023 in Miami, FL. She was the beloved wife of Zachary D. Herrick.

Born in Elmhurst, NY, Susana was the daughter of Ana (Pinedo) Barraza and the late Manuel Barraza. She was the owner of Herrick Family Dentistry in Glastonbury.

In addition to her husband and mother, Susana is survived by her two loving daughters Isabella and Gabriella, her sister Karina Towne of Ridgefield, her sister Mariela Winter and her husband Jeremy of Ridgefield, her brother Roberto Barraza and his wife Marisol of PA, her sister Monica Barraza of Argentina, her father-in-law and mother-in-law Michael and Carolyn Herrick of Norwich, her brother-in-law Nathan Herrick of NJ, her brother-in-law Aaron Herrick and his wife Lindsey of Southington, her nieces and nephews Madison and Emilia Towne, Ashton Winter, Marcus and Arianna Herrick, Harper, Hudson and Hadlee Herrick, Veronica, Bobby, and Michael Barraza, and Sofia Couchot Barraza. Susana was predeceased by her brother-in-law Harris B. Towne III.

Susana “Sue” was a 1997 graduate of Sacred Heart Academy in Hemstead, NY.  She went on to Central Connecticut State University, where she was a member of the volleyball team and inaugural member of the lacrosse team.  She graduated from CCSU in 2002 with a B.S. in Biology.  Sue went on to The University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine in 2004 and graduated with her DMD degree in 2008. She completed her one-year general dentistry residency at Hartford Hospital in 2009, and subsequently joined Galvin & Round Family Dentistry, where she was an associate until 2015.  In 2015 Sue became partner in the practice, and in 2018 she became sole owner of the practice (Herrick Family Dentistry) of which she was extremely proud. 

More than anything, Sue was proud of her two daughters, Isabella “Izzy” and Gabriella “Gabby”.  She loved watching them compete in gymnastics, lacrosse, swimming, basketball, and more.  Sue enjoyed family trips to the beach in Rhode Island, working out at the local CrossFit gym, coaching youth lacrosse and basketball, and attending concerts with her friends and family.  Sue was the perfect complement to Zach, her loving husband of over 15 years.  She will be remembered by all who met her by her big smile and infectious laugh. 

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 7, 2023 at 9:00 am at St. Paul Church, 2577 Main Street, Glastonbury.
