Obituary of Donald Allen McNiel

Donald Allen McNiel, 92, of Hebron passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at home surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Audra (Kanzigg) McNiel.

Born in Harrogate, TN, Donald was the son of the late Paul and Bessie (Rector) McNiel. He worked in the Claims department for the Hartford Insurance Company for 35 years. Don was known for his perpetual optimism, cheerful nature and his love for his family, especially his cherished wife, Audra. He was committed to helping others and happily spent countless hours volunteering for Foodshare. One of his favorite pastimes was karate and he was very proud to have obtained the level of black belt at the age of 80. Don enjoyed living in Hebron where he found great joy in watching the birds and wildlife in his yard.

In addition to his wife, Donald is survived by his daughter Laura M. DiLullo and her husband Michael of Farmington, his two sons W. Mark McNiel and his wife Judith of Glastonbury, David P. McNiel of Plantsville, two grandsons Nicholas and Christopher DiLullo. He was predeceased by his two brothers Paul and Earl McNiel.

A celebration of Don’s life will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at 1:00 pm at the First Church of Christ Congregational, 2183 Main St., Glastonbury. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
