Obituary of William C. Hogue
William Chamberlain Hogue, 82, of Glastonbury, beloved husband of Marsha W. Hogue and cherished father and Grampy, passed away at home on September 22, surrounded by his family and steadfast friend, Carolyn Blackmore. He was born September 16, 1941, in New York City, son of Richard and Leone Hogue. He was a loving brother to Katherine Steele, the late Richard Hogue and his partner Roger, and little sister, Mary Brady and her husband Jim.
He will be dearly missed not only by his wife, but by his four daughters and three sons-in-law: Kelly and Dan McCarthy, Kirsten and John Hassett, Kara Dwyer, Kati and Joe Mercer. He meant the world to his ten grandchildren and their spouses: Ryan and Corinne McCarthy, Jordan and Erin Hassett, Morgan McCarthy and Naveed Ghasem, Kelsey Hassett, Shelby and Garrick Mayweather, Collin, Jenna and Jeremy Mercer, Brodie and Madigan Dwyer. He was the very proud Great Grampy to Thea, Henry and Owen, with two more on the way. He was affectionately known as Uncle Bill to his fifteen nieces and nephews and loyal brother-in-law to Lois and the late John Blatter.
Bill married his wife of 60 years in 1963, and graduated from Yale University in 1964. He joined Aetna Life and Casualty in 1966, where he retired as Senior Vice President of Bond Investment in 1990. Later years were spent volunteering at Church of the Holy Family as a Eucharistic Minister and CRE teacher and as a surgery liaison at St. Francis Hospital. In his free time, he was an avid gardener, poet, reader, storyteller, woodworker, train enthusiast, babysitter, cheerleader, historian, and golfer. He was the essence of Christmas Spirit. Grampy loved nothing more than building golf ball castles and body surfing at the beach or playing card games late into the night. Being by the ocean or pool and vacationing with family and friends were a few of his favorite things. He treasured time spent with closest friends Steven and Carolyn Blackmore, Bill and Linnie Russell, Bud and Sherry Cohn, and Mike and Ginny Bradley.
