I am so said learning that Dr. Haines has passed away. He was an amazing vet who took such great care of my two cats. He truly loved his job and cared about the animals, it was so clear to see! I don’t know who I could ever trust my babies with the way I trusted Dr. Haines. Thank you Dr. Haines for everything.

Just found out.
Dr. Haines was monumental in his care with the Animal Kingdom.
The best in his field as far as I'm concerned and surrounded by equally efficient, kind, caring and sensitive staff.
He cared for, observed, diagnosed and treated animals with impeccable care and concern.
He had a presence that you picked up on as soon as you met him. Truly in defense of all animals.
My dogs may have balked a bit when he first treated them but after a few visits they understood he was here to help them.
I remember one day I parked my car somewhat close to his car and my beagle was with me, my dog went on a barking rant nonstop all the while looking at his car which was empty. Sure, enough Dr Bill emerged from the store and again my dog went even louder with his barking. Dr Bill responded with a grin and a quick wave all the while shaking his head. Amazing, how my dog knew he was close by because I doubt, my beagle recognized the station wagon LIC Plate, DR VET.
I wish I had a chance to see Dr Haines one more time, sad, but this loss affects the lives of Pets and People.
Wherever he is I am sure he is in charge of some kind of healing as he was one of a kind and I wish him all the best.
I thank him and his staff for all their years of service. All of them made a huge difference in the lives of pets and pet owners.
My condolence's to his family.

To dear Joan and family I have almost thirty years of memories of Bill. From when we left Glastonbury and moved to Wethersfield in the early 1980’s to restore the Josiah Buck house and build a barn for three horses and many cats and our two beloved dogs. I could write pages on all dear Dr. Bill did for us and with us from teaching Sunday school with our two sons to helping us and neighbor with two goats for the Heifer project plus fixing many stray cats so we could get homes for them. Caring about our dogs when sick and being there when we sadly said goodbye to them.
The horses were always in need of TLC and thank goodness he came quickly when I was in the process of delivering my first foal.
Bless you Dr.Bill for your caring and friendship and support thru some good and some challenging times. They were the best because you cared. RIP ❤️❤️

We offer our heartfelt condolences to Joan and the entire Haines family. Bill was a well known and highly regarded veterinarian amongst his peers and his clients. Bill was something of a mentor to me. I remember when I was just beginning to accumulate additional experience while pursuing my preveterinary education in the mid seventies Bill allowed me to accompany him on some of his horse calls a couple times a week one summer. He impressed on me not only the diversity of knowledge and skill required as a veterinarian but also the care for one's own safety necessary when working with horses. I opted after graduation to stick with dog and cat patients. I also have fond memories of him chiding me that he finally got me more involved with the Connecticut Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) serving on a committee. We will miss his presence and always caring demeanor.

Dr. Haines was one of the first veterinarians I met in Connecticut outside of those at my practice. He was always a warm and welcoming and wonderful person. His compassion for mentorship of those younger than him, and those interested in veterinary medicine will always be remembered within our small profession.

Dr. Bill was a saint. He cared for our pets with love and honesty. When we had to put down our late "Sammy" Dr. Haines left a dinner with Joan to meet us at the Hospital in Sammy's time of need. He never asked for a penny. A true hero to us and a true Great Man in these tough times. We will miss you dearly Doc. God Bless you always.

Dr. Bill was one of the most empathetic people I have ever known. He possessed all the qualities that make an excellent vet. But, even more importantly, he was an extraordinary human being, calm, compassionate, and thoughtful. My two rescue dogs,Toby and Max, knew they had a friend in Bill Haines right up to the end. Bill and Joan have contributed so much, in so many ways
over an astonishing wide range of community organizations in Wethersfield.
Dr. William Haines is a shining example of "a life well lived" and leaves a unique legacy that we will long remember.

Such sadness my husband and I felt upon hearing the news of Dr. Haines' passing. He has taken care of our furry family for over thirty years and will be deeply missed. His first patient, Samantha, who lived to almost sixteen developed Shepard hind leg problems, Following x-rays he actually contacted an orthopedic MD friend as to the best course of action. Above and beyond, giving of himself for each situation, Katie, our severely abused rescue, who would tremble in fear each visit would always be cuddled in his kind arms. At present he was caring for Baxter, 13 and Tara, 5. Medical issues were always addressed with simple meds and ointments. To our delight his suggestions always rectified the problems.
Over the years I'd hear stories of his wife, children and especially grandchildren. He was so proud of you all. You have each been truly blessed to have had him in your life as husband, dad and grandpa.
With Deepest Sympathy,
Mary & Fred Lewchik

Dr. Bill was our vet for decades, providing love and great care to our various pets. Doc was an old fashioned vet in the best possible way - he cared for the human members of his pet patients as well as the pets themselves. There was never a rush in his office, always questions about how the family was doing, and gentle care to our dogs and animals. He guided them back to health throughout their lives, and when the time came, guided them in a peaceful and pain free sleep.
Our sincerest condolences to the Haines family, and to Dr. Haines' work family at Hartford Vet as well .
Rest in Peace Dr. Haines, you will be missed.
Sincerely,
Mary-El and Kevin Quinn

My deepest condolences to Dr. Haines family. Dr. Hines was our 6 dogs vet for over 20 years. My last visit was 2 weeks prior to him passing and all I can think off was him telling me how good I was to all my dogs which were my babies and while me crying for the loss of my last one he looked at me and said "Wow, she was 17 already, I remember you bringing her as a puppy we are getting old" and we both started laughing and he gave me a big hug and he shook my husband hand. I left the office heart broken because not only did I loose my last pet, but I wouldn't be using his services any longer. The day I called to pick up my dogs remaining's I found out he passed the night prior. I couldn't stop crying, it felt like I lost a family member, someone close. He was wonderful, compassionate. I don't think I would ever find such loving veterinarian ever. May he rest in peace.

From the time when Dr. Bill Haines married his beloved wife, Joan (of which I was in attendance at the tender age of 14) my aunt, Mildred Thompson Snow who was very close to Joan's family, introduced me to Bill Haines. It was obvious, that this loving man had such an extended heart, that he embraced, nurtured and cared for both the four footed creatures of this world and that of the human world with understanding, compassion, enduring love and dedication. Oh for this world of ours, to have more people to grace this world of ours like this magnificent man! My heartfelt condolences to his devoted wife, Joan, their children and grandchildren and ALL who loved this wonderful man.

I am very sad / devastated by this news. I used Hartford Veterinary Hospital since we got our first dog, Captain, from the humane society, in 1994. He was my vet for not only Captain, but Peppy, Diva and Duchess. I will miss the entire staff, Wendy, Bob and especially John all very helpful and kind whenever I went there. I am truly blessed that I was just there with Diva for her rabies shot in November. I had one last visit with him and we chatted of our families and the holidays. He always told me of the additions to his family, he loved them all.

Sorry we couldn't schedule a follow-up visit as we planned, but sorrier for the loss of such an exceptional man. Condolences to his family, staff and clients. RIP.

Dr. Haines was a hero to me. He was so kind to my very first cocker spaniel, Freddie. He was at end of life and Dr. Haines advised he should be put to rest, but I was bawling my eyes out and couldn't do it. He was kind and compassionate. He would give Freddie a B-12 shot and an understanding smile. He called me on a Sunday morning when one of my cats, Tom, was very ill and he advised that his organs were shutting down and I should come to say goodbye. His love of animals was unsurpassed. He was beloved by the entire staff at Hartford Veterinary Hospital. During the pandemic, they shorted the hospital's hours, made sure everyone wore a mask, and and ensured no one could get near Dr. Haines if there was a chance they might be contagious. I will cherish the memories I have of bringing so many dogs and cats there and always feeling the easy banter and friendliness of the entire staff. Dr. Haines was one of a kind. He can never be replaced.

Bill Haines was the vet for my two dogs Max and Luna. He was one of the kindest and most compassionate people I have ever known. Bill was always sincere, friendly, and decent. I always felt that he was one of those old school people who went about their business professionally yet deeply concerned for both the pet and the family. In a world of such contention, bipartisanship, and general disenchantment, Bill remained the true, real, decent, loving man and doctor. Stuart and I send our deepest condolences to the entire family. Bill was a totally fine man and human being. His love of family, God, and humanity were a blessing to us all and a major role model for all. He is simply the epitome of the good man. He cannot be replaced, only sadly missed and remembered with love by all who knew him.

I met Dr Bill, and Dr. Larson back in the early 70’s.
I went with Dr Bill on farm calls, and to the humane society before they had Veterinary care.
Bill loved his work no matter how painful some animals could be. He was one of one, he loved animals and his family, he thought about his staff, he wanted to retire, but worried about his staff.
Bill will always be in my thoughts and prayers, He believed in Family, God , and the best for animals and people.
God bless Bill and his family. He was and will always be remembered.

We are very sorry to hear about the passing of Bill. He became our vet in 1966. Had Jeffery as a player in the Wethersfield LL and got to know Bill even better. He was always available to help, as a vet and as a friend.
We had our last dog, Licorice under his care till she passed on in 2022. He always made you feel
you were his friend and not just another customer.
Even when I stopped to say hello after our dog was gone, he always would come out say hello and
give a handshake and a hug.
A dear friend, and a wonderful, dedicated vet.
Will miss you Bill!

Dr. Haines was a kind and gentle man. As a high school student, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. Dr. Haines happily allowed me to volunteer at his hospital, and taught me a lot of interesting thigs, including preventive medicine, patience and client interaction. He was never stressed and often whistled through his day and appointments. At university, I asked Dr. Haines to come and speak to a small group of students about respiratory diseases in horses. He eagerly agreed, and took time from his busy schedule to come to Quinnipiac to lecture.
Dr. Haines led an exemplary life as a veterinarian, humanitarian, and outstanding human being. Heaven is fortunate to have him, and he will be forever remembered and sorely missed in our profession.
My deepest sympathy to his family.

Dr. Bill has been a family friend beginning with his early days at First Church with my parents. He became the family vet when my grandmother started bringing her dog to him and then when we added our dog Brady to the family he and the team at Hartford Vet have cared for Brady as if he was their own. Dr. Bill's genuine care and concern for animals and humans alike is rare. He inquired about my folks during each visit and always asked how my girls were doing. We were always greeted with hugs and left receiving another one. He was a special person and we are truly blessed to have had him in our lives. Our deepest condolences to the entire Haines clan.

We have know Dr. Bill, since I was around 6 years old, visiting Hartford Veterinary, with Dr. Bill, Dr. Larson, John and Pat. He was always very honest with his diagnoses about our pets that we had brought to him over the years, along with his visits to horse farms back in the day. And always ended your appointment with a Dr. Bill joke!!! He will be missed, but will always be in our hearts and conversations!

How blessed we were to call Bill Haines a friend! Our eleven-year relationship evolved from a chance encounter of two grandmothers at the Dunkin’ Donuts down the road from Dr. Bill’s clinic, each woman taking care of a young grandson. Joan and I became fast friends, meeting at story hours, Mikey’s Place, and Aroma Bistro with Tucker and Benjamin and including our husbands periodically at lunch. Many years of couples dinners out followed, especially at Bear’s Smokehouse, Elaine’s, and Mykonos. Bill’s fascinating veterinary stories and Don’s kayaking adventures, Joan’s nursing experiences and volunteer work and my teaching anecdotes were frequent topics, as were family concerns, pride in our grandkids’ accomplishments, and the health challenges that accompany the aging process. We treasured each visit, the last of which occurred on November 11th. Bill’s final hug good-by is one that I’ll always cherish.
