We spent many events at Lodge remincing about Pittsburgh. The gout advice was most helpful. Soft and safe be thy resting place, my Brother.

John and I met while both of us voluntered at the VA hospital in Long Beach through the fact that both of us learning that we served in the Marines in the same batallion and same division but different companies, with both of us having served in Korea. John and I would often break bread together and talk about our time in Korea. He was a wonderful man, a good Marine and someone who would give a stranger a helping hand. Semper Fi, Captain Gearhart. We will meet again at the gates of heaven. You will be missed.

I knew John for roughly the last 15 years or so. We served on church council together, a bowling league and sometimes went to breakfast or lunch together. John was a very giving person and had a wonderful sense of humor. John could surely make you laugh. John was a person who had many friends and has given me the inspiration to reach out to more people. John will be missed by my wife Linda and me. Rest in peace John!

I was John's hairdresser the last couple of years here in Cypress CA. He was a wonderfully optimistic man. It was a pleasure to have known him. I know he's in Heaven with Our Lord. RIP John!

John was just an all around great guy! The best!. Thoughtful, kind, generous , full of life, humor, and fun. He and Sally even joined us on a few family vacations to places like Hawaii and Las Vegas. John was a dear friend to all of the Sittler family (young and old, adults and kids alike) and he will be truly missed.

I first met John 9/46 at Mansfield University. We were roommates for two years 1946 - 1947. Fond memories include meeting John's family, and being introduced to, and eating some of his mother's delicious venison stew.... going to the hunting cabin, and swimming in the local park. At Mansfield we
cross country skied, and hiked in the Grand Canyon of PA. (also known as Little Switzerland).
John enlisted in the Marine Corps Platoon Leaders Training Program at Mansfield, and was commissioned a 2nd Lt. upon graduation in 1950. He was almost immediately called up for active duty. He served in Korea with distinction, was wounded, and received the Purple Heart. John was a Marine in spirit carrying Semper Fi in his heart until the end of his life. He was a faithful and loyal friend, and had a GREAT sense of humor. John fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith in God and Country. Well done good and faithful servant, may your soul rest in peace.
Your loving brother and friend, Phil

It was an honor, a privilege and a blessing to meet John. I am sure he is now part of the angels in heaven who praise the good Lord. I am very happy for him. There is no more suffering for him, only the Glory of God. He was one of my suppliers, but I had a special connection with him because I was able to see in him a man with God’s love inside his heart.
