Obituary of Bertrand P. Roy

Bertrand P. Roy/Draghi passed away suddenly at Hartford Hospital, Hartford, CT on January 24, 2024. Born in Fort Kent, Maine on August 17, 1954, Bert was predeceased by his father, Willie Roy, mother Priscille Roy, brother Aurelian (Ray) Roy, sister, Lorrina Hutchins, sister, Yvette Pelletier, brother-in-law Kevin Kelley, and father-in-law, Peter Draghi, and step-father-in-law, Donald Tryon. He is survived by his husband of 25 years, Gary Draghi of South Windsor, CT, mother-in-law, Diane Tryon and step mother-in-law, Phyllis Draghi and her daughters, Sue and Debbie; brother, Robert (Mona) Roy, sister Trese Kelley, sister, Carleen Roy, sister, Kathleen Curtis, brother, William (Kimberly) Roy, brother, James (Susan) Roy, beloved nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews , great-grand nieces and great-grand nephews.

Bert moved to Connecticut in 1976 and started working in West Hartford as a hair stylist and then opened his own salon, Bert & Co, in 1991. He moved the salon to South Windsor in 2014. In addition to working as a hairstylist, Bert worked alongside Gary on the farm.

Bert was an avid bowler; he bowled many years at Silver Lane Bowling Alley and when he retired his bowling ball, he took up bingo with his mother-in-law Diane a few nights a week. He made many friends along the way. Bert always loved a good card game with the family; often the games got exciting, especially when his nieces got the best of him!

Bert made many friends through his clients at the salon, as well as working at the farm stand and at the local farmers markets. Most of his clients of over forty years have not been just clients–they were friends as well.

Bert and Gary loved to travel, and they enjoyed trips to Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia, Kennebunkport, Maine, and most recently, a European Cruise to Hungary, Austria, and Germany. They went to the Christmas Markets throughout Europe on their journey.
