Obituary of Ann S. Larson
Ann (Skinner) Larson, of South Glastonbury, died peacefully on January 25, 2024 at the age of 82. By her side was her adoring husband of 60 years, Fred Larson.
Ann was born in 1941 to Allen and Betty Skinner in Salem, MA. She graduated from Newington High School, where she and Fred met as members of the student council, and later studied Art History at Hartford College for Women.
Growing up, Ann spent summers on Littlejohn Island in Maine, making memories that would last a lifetime. She retained her love of the ocean the rest of her life and enjoyed sailing with Fred and their children on many trips to Block Island and, later, in Maine’s Penobscot Bay.
Ann’s favorite days were spent with her family and she made their home a beautiful, comfortable place. She and Fred spent hours working in their gardens and loved gathering the family together to share her delicious home cooked meals. She adored her grandchildren and never missed an opportunity to cheer each of them on at their many sporting events and musical concerts. She and Fred were avid travelers, taking trips with friends and family; they especially loved spending time in Boston and in Maine. She enjoyed playing bridge and tennis, watching professional soccer, and enthusiastically supported the local arts, never missing a season at The Bushnell.
Ann had an overwhelming compassion for animals and could not ignore one in need of a home. Over the years she rescued, adopted and provided shelter and food for many furry friends, each of them hitting the jackpot to land in Ann’s care! She was truly generous to all and donated many hours to others through Hartford’s Read to Succeed Program.
Besides her loving husband, Ann is survived by her daughter, Pamela Larson and her husband Michael Hutcherson of Islesboro, ME and her daughter Sara Musto and her husband John Musto of West Hartford, CT and their three children, Carlie, Sam and George, who knew her lovingly as Nani. She also leaves a brother John Skinner of VT and was predeceased by her brother Rick.
