Obituary of Irene Byrne

M. Irene Byrne, 94, of South Glastonbury and Estero, Fl, passed away peacefully on February 21st after a long illness. She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, M. Francis “Frank” Byrne. Irene was born in Scranton, PA on July 18, 1929, to the late Robert & Irene Walsh.  She was also predeceased by her brother Robert and sister Margaret.  

Irene was a graduate of Villanova University in Philadelphia, PA and Fitzgerald-Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Darby, PA.  She was a registered nurse, retiring from Manchester Memorial Hospital in 1992.  She enjoyed the simple things in life; spending winters in Florida and playing golf, visiting family, spending time with her grandchildren and doing the daily crosswords.

She is survived by her 5 children, Renee (Mark) Anderson of Colchester, Paul Byrne of Estero FL, Stephen (Pat) Byrne of Media, PA, Kenneth (Alison) Byrne of Durham and Susan (Beat) Jucker of Royersford, PA; and 12 grandchildren, Molly, Colleen and Bridget Anderson, Matthew, Weston and Shannon Byrne, Ashley & Brittany Byrne, Hailey and Conner Byrne and Daniel and Patrick Jucker.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at 11:00 am at Ss. Isidore and Maria Parish in St. Augustine Church, 55 Hopewell Road, South Glastonbury. Burial will be in St. Augustine Cemetery.  Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm as well as Thursday, February 29, 2024 from 9:00 am to 10:30 am at Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury.
