Obituary of Thomas J. Niedzwiecki

Thomas J. "Niedz" Niedzwiecki, 72, of Glastonbury passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, surrounded by his friends and family. Born in Bridgeport on February 8, 1952, a son of the late Joseph and Kasmaria (Bogdanowicz) Niedzwiecki of Stratford.  Tom attended Bunnell High School and was a proud graduate of University of Connecticut where he met his lifelong friends whom he treasured.  He worked for the Town of Stratford as the Economic Development Coordinator and then obtained his Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Syracuse University. He was a loyal employee of The Town of West Hartford for thirty-two years. He held various roles in his tenure: Assistant to the Town Manager and Budget Management Analyst for the Police Department, Administrative Services, and Public Works Department.  He also worked part-time for over 30 years for the Worthington Fire District in Berlin, CT. For Tom, the best part of work was the people he met along the way.

Tom was truly a wonderful person, who always saw the best in everyone and everything. His grandchildren sweetened his life and he enjoyed every second he had with them. Tom had a passion for music, was an avid guitarist, and threw a legendary knuckle ball. He enjoyed rooting for UConn sports and the Patriots, and golfing with friends. He loved nothing more than to be surrounded by his family and friends. Tom's lively and generous spirit will never be forgotten, and neither will his booming laugh that will forever echo in the memories of his loved ones – along with his endless supply of joy and jokes. Tom positively impacted everyone his light touched, always encouraging everyone to "do their best and have fun".

He is survived by his beloved partner Kathryn Carfi of over twenty years. He was a "one in a million" Dada to his daughter Kristen Kosko, her husband Jesse, and his granddaughters Gianna (Gigi) and Brynn (Brynnie Brynn's) Kosko; his stepdaughter Kellianne Carfi, her husband Nicholas Paolini and his newest granddaughter "baby" Margot; his stepson Sean Carfi and his partner Alexandra Herzer; his two brothers Ronald (Bud/Johnny) Niedzwiecki and his wife Emily; Philip (Cheesy Boy) Niedzwiecki and his wife Danielle; his sister Joann (Jojo) Szczepanski and her husband Mark; and several nieces and nephews who love their Uncle Tommy. His former spouse, Sandy Geerts, and her family will miss Tom. He leaves behind countless friends he held very dear.

"If love could have saved you, you never would have died".

A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, June 3, 2024, at 11:30am at Ss.
