Obituary of James Hamilton Elwood
James Hamilton Elwood, 88, of Glastonbury, formerly of South Windsor, beloved husband of the late Geraldine (Dewey) Elwood, died Saturday, July 6, 2024. Jim was born in Fitchburg, MA on September 22, 1935 to the late Harold and Evelyn (Hurd) Elwood. Growing up in New York, Jim took a test for entrance into Brooklyn Technical High School, which he aced without studying, drastically changing the direction of his life. He graduated from Kansas University and earned a doctorate at Trinity. During the Korean War, Jim was a Morse Code Operator in Alaska. He then worked as an engineer at Pratt & Whitney. He was a very avid reader, adept woodworker and fly fisherman. Jim had a NY Times subscription for 70 years. He is survived by his daughter Jennifer Elwood, of South Glastonbury, his son, James Elwood and his wife Alejandra Constante, of Windsor, and his grandchildren, Gabriella Elwood, Bee Becher, and Teddy Becher. Jim is also survived by his brothers Tom Elwood and his wife Ellen of Brooklyn, and Kenneth Elwood and his wife Mary Ellen of Maryland. Besides his wife, Jim was predeceased by his siblings Harry and Jane. Services will be private. Memorial donations may be made to Children in Placement (www.childreninplacement.org)
