Catherine Pyne

Obituary of Catherine A. Pyne

Catherine Ann (Rideout) Pyne, 69, of Glastonbury passed away on July 29, 2024.  Her final days were spent surrounded by her beloved children, husband and loved ones, and she was overjoyed to be able to hold her first grandchild.  An unparalleled fighter, Cathy received a diagnosis of Stage 4 lung cancer in 2008 which carried a life expectancy of 12-14 months, but with strength, positivity, and humor she persevered for nearly 16 years.

Cathy was born to the late William and Rita (Goodskey) Rideout in Fairbanks, Alaska on May 24, 1955, and grew up in West Hartford, Connecticut.  She was a graduate of Hall High School, and later, Tunxis Community College.  She married Frank Pyne on June 21, 1980, and went on to raise four children who were the light of her life.  She is survived by her devoted husband, her beloved children and their partners, Jennifer & Allan, Christopher & Jennifer and their daughter Hazel, Nicholas & Hayley, and Kimberly & Anthony, as well as her two brothers, William and David Rideout and their families, and her mother and sister-in-law, Lorraine and Maureen Pyne.  She was predeceased by her brother, Bert, and her parents.

Mrs. Pyne's warmth touched many lives through her work as a Special Education Paraprofessional in the Glastonbury Public School System.  She cared for each of her students like they were her own – she cheered them on, advocated for them, and loved them all.

Cathy loved spending time with her family more than anything in the world, with being on the beach or by the ocean on a sunny day a close second – and when those two combined, she was as happy as could be.  She loved reading, planting beautiful flowers in her gardens, visiting with her friends, traveling and picking out the perfect toys and treats for her "grand-dogs".  She was kind and thoughtful, sending cards for every birthday and special occasion.  She also spread so much joy with her fantastic Halloween and Christmas decorations adorning the front yard.

Cathy was never afraid to be herself, her sense of humor never wavered, and she always made sure you knew how much you were loved.  Her memory will be treasured by all who knew her, and she will be deeply missed.

A celebration of Cathy’s life will be planned for family & friends at a later date.  Memorial donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
