Obituary of Irene Levsky
Irene Levsky passed peacefully on September 2, 2024. She is now reunited in eternal life with her husband, Walter, whom she has missed dearly since his passing in 2017.
Irene was born in Brodiv Ukraine in 1930. Her family fled west as Russia advanced and sadly ended up detained by a German labor camp. After WWII ended she immigrated to America in 1951 aboard the Gen. C.H. Muir, where she won the sweater & beauty contest on the ship and made the front page of the New York World Telegraph. Her flair for fashion didn’t stop there, and she will be remembered fondly for the way she always dressed herself colorfully and elegantly, and always with a love for a good broach. She was an impeccable cook and baker, highly skilled in needlepoint, and enjoyed her many years in her church choir. But above all else, Irene always expressed how much her family mattered to her in life.
She is survived by her two sisters Olha Jakymiw (Wethersfield, CT) and Dorothy Maksymiw (Ludlow, MA), as well as her two sons - Adrian Levsky and his wife, Virginia (Longmeadow, MA) and Mark Levsky and his wife, Diana (Glastonbury, CT). She was the beloved Busha to her five grandchildren and loved their spouses like her own - Adrian (Brittney), Raissa (Andrew), Matthew, Jonathan (Amanda), and Justin (Brooke). She was delighted to live a life long enough to cherish time with her two great-granddaughters as well, (her namesake) Mila Irene and Lena Levsky, and was excited and hopeful to meet the next two great-grandchildren due within months. Finally, she’d never forgive us if we neglected the unbreakable bond she had with her adored cat BoBo, which she sadly had to rehome in her move to Assisted Living.
The family would like to thank the staff and nurses at The Residence at Glastonbury (formerly The Hearth), as well as Masonicare, for their caring support through the years, especially so over the last few weeks.
