Obituary of Lillian O. Serafino

Lillian O. Serafino, 94, longtime resident of Bethany, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2024. She was the widow of Robert Serafino (D. 2013). Lillian was born in Queens, NY on June 12, 1930, daughter to the late Manuel and Carmen Mendez. She pursued higher education, attending Hunter college, and then Penn State University for her master’s degree in education. Lillian taught Spanish and Italian in New York. Later in life, she went to UCONN school of law, earning her JD in 1984 at the age of 54. Teaching remained a passion for her and Lillian was an adjunct law instructor at Post University and SCSU, doing this until retiring in 1993. She loved to travel and was a lifelong learner. Always wanting to remain busy and helpful, Lillian worked as a transportation coordinator for interfaith volunteer caregivers in Hamden for several years. She leaves behind her two daughters, Margaret Ann Schaulis, Mary Ellen Levesque and her husband, Andrew Levesque, and her grandchildren, Brianna, Schaulis, and Emerald Levesque. Lillian was predeceased by her sister Nancy Hagland of Anchorage, AK. Burial will be private at the convenience of her family at the Carrington cemetery in Bethany. Contributions can be made to the Bethany fire department and ambulance services, who knew her well. Many thanks from the family to those who responded to her, looked in on her, and allowed her to be as independent as she so wanted to be. A life well lived.
