Obituary of Lucy A. Bezila

Lucy Knapp Rider Bezila, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at Hartford Hospital on December 17, 2024 with her family by her side.

 

Born in Stamford Connecticut to May Lally and Harry Knapp on August 25, 1941,

 

Lucy was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert J. Bezila, her son Michael J. Rider, her brother James M. Knapp, her sister Dorothy.

 

Lucy grew up in Delhi, NY and moved to Glastonbury in 1964 where she would raise two sons and became a dedicated and cherished member of the community. She worked for many years at Glastonbury High School, touching the lives of countless people. Lucy married Robert (Bob) Bezila in 1988 and together they embarked on countless adventures, traveling the world and creating a lifetime of memories.

 

Lucy was a devoted and loving mother to her surviving son, Patrick and she was a proud and involved grandmother to her many grandchildren, who brought her immeasurable joy and love. Lucy will be remembered for her unwavering kindness, her direct and honest nature, and her perseverance in the face of life's challenges. She maintained numerous lifelong friendships, a testament to her ability to connect with and positively impact people wherever she went.

 

In her recent years, Lucy and Bob found joy and companionship at Covenant Living of Cromwell, where they formed many cherished friendships and embraced a new chapter in their lives.

 

Lucy leaves behind her son, Patrick, and her grandchildren: Michael, Megan, Naomi, Patrick Jr., Merida, Liam Rider, Jacob and Grace Bezila, Jon and Eddie Freeman, and a multitude of friends who will forever hold her dear. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her but her memory will continue to light up the lives of those she knew and loved.

 

In celebration of Lucy’s life, a mass and memorial will be held at Covenant Living 101 West St, Cromwell, CT 06416 in the Event Center on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at 11:00 am. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Lucy Bezila can be made to Saint Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or The House of Bread 27 Chestnut St, Hartford, CT 06120.
