Obituary of James W. Blessing

James “Jim” Blessing, 84, of East Hampton, CT and Clermont, FL, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on October 1, 1940, in East Hartford, CT, Jim was the son of Theodore and Hazel (Masterson) Blessing. He was predeceased by his devoted wife of 62 years, Gail (LaRocque) Blessing.

He proudly served in the U.S. Navy, stationed in San Diego from 1957 to 1961. Following his military service, he built a successful career as an executive at The Hartford. In retirement, Jim embraced his passion for golf, a sport that became his true calling. Relocating to Florida, Jim spent his golden years doing what he loved most golfing daily and sharing laughter with Gail and their many friends. Known for his quick wit and charm, Jim earned the affectionate nickname “Mayor of Clermont,” as he effortlessly turned strangers into lifelong friends.

Beyond the golf course, Jim cherished his family above all. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who took great pride in spending time with his family creating memories filled with love and laughter.

Jim is predeceased by his wife, Gail Blessing.  He leaves behind his beloved children: Michael Blessing and his wife Laura of Avon, CT, and Jennifer Costanzo and her husband Jeff of Glastonbury, CT. His grandchildren: Daniel Blessing, Kelly Blessing, Jasper Costanzo, and Aiden Costanzo. He is survived by his brother Theodore Blessing and his sisters Carol Lawrence and Sandra Mauro.
