Obituary of Elizabeth Kennedy

Elizabeth "Liz" Kennedy, 81, wife of the late Edward Kennedy died at home on December 7, 2011. She was born on May 4, 1930, in Rochester, NY, daughter of the late Omar D. Stowell Sr. and Louise Beatrice (Case) Stowell. Liz graduated from Rochester General Hospital School of Nursing in 1951. She worked in many capacities over the years in Rochester and Corning, NY and the Boston area. Following her retirement, she and Ed moved to Staunton, VA to restore a 1910 home and operate The Kenwood Bed and Breakfast. Liz was an active member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church and the Staunton community. Liz was an accomplished seamstress, loved to knit and decorate and shared the love of many sports with her husband. Liz is survived by her children, a son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Kathleen Kennedy of Medway, MA, and two daughters and sons-in-law, Lynn and Brian Sanford of Cambridge, MA, and Beth and Joseph Bucceri of Glastonbury, CT. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Jennifer Stierer, Thomas and Matthew Parsons, Michael and John Bucceri, her great grandson, Myles Stierer and many nieces and nephews. Liz was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Edward Kennedy; brother, Omar D. Stowell, Jr.; and granddaughter, Kaitlyn Kennedy. A memorial service celebrating Liz's life will be held on Monday, December 12, 2011 in CT. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association- CT chapter.
