Obituary of Edward Kuligoski

Edward J. Kuligoski, 88, of Glastonbury, died peacefully at home on Friday, March 21, 2014. Born April 15, 1925 in Middletown, he was the son of the late William and Alice Kuligoski. He had resided in Glastonbury since 1956. Edward is survived by his beloved wife Lorraine, his sons, Steven and his wife Janet of Grafton, NH, and Michael and his wife Carole of North Danville, VT; his grandchildren Jennifer and Steven, and James and Mark; his brother-in-law Anthony Valdati and his wife Ann of Glastonbury and their daughter Beth Anne Bennett of Hamden; his niece Lenore Smith of Portland; and his nephews Robert Markham of Portland and Marshall Markham of East Hampton. He was predeceased by his brothers John and Leonard, and his sisters Gertrude Taus and Eleanor Markham, and his niece Louise Papallo. As a young man Ed was a fireman for the City of Middletown. He was also invited to tryout with the New York Giants as a pitcher (he had a mean knuckleball) around 1948. Ed was part owner of Edlen's Bake Shop in Portland from 1961 to 1980, and from 1980 to 1995 he was part owner of Allied Instrument and Tool in Manchester until he retired. Ed loved to paint scenery in watercolors and oil. He also loved to cook; he was well known for his cheesecake and babka. He was a loyal lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. Ed penned the following poem while a patient at Hartford Hospital: Give my regards to the West Side, It's many miles away, My home sweet home on the Hillside, Where Cross Street is Broadway to me. The sites that you see there at nighttime, Would turn old Broadway upside down, So give my regards to the West Side, When in dear old Middletown. A Mass of Christian Burial of will be celebrated Tuesday, March 25th at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Augustine Church, 55 Hopewell Road, South Glastonbury, CT 06073. Friends may call Monday, March 24th from 5p.m. to 7p.m. at the Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint Augustine Church.
