Obituary of Paul Dysenchuk

Lifelong Glastonbury resident, Paul Dysenchuk, passed away at Hartford Hospital on March 25, 2014. He was 95 years old. Oldest son of Ivan and Evadokia Dysenchuk, he was born on February 2, 1919. Paul attended Glastonbury public schools until the age of 16 when, due to his father's death, he went to work for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft where his career spanned 38 years. He served in the Navy during World War II. After his retirement from Pratt & Whitney, Paul drove a special education bus for the Glastonbury schools for 10 years. Paul will be long remembered for his love of life, devotion to his family and his outgoing personality. He was a gifted storyteller and was a well known and loved Glastonbury resident. Paul was an unofficial town historian who remembered fondly the days when Glastonbury was a rural farming community. Paul loved to reminisce about his youth and the town he loved dearly. His father was the first town shoemaker whose shop was located on what is now the Town Green. He was a member of the Glastonbury Ukrainian Catholic Church. Paul was a 38 year summer resident of Frye Island, Maine. Paul was predeceased by his wife, Helen, to whom he was married for 60 years. He is survived by his brother John Dysenchuk of Glastonbury, his sister Ann Godzyk and her husband John of Kensington, CT, his son Bruce and his wife Louise of Scarsdale, NY and his son David and his wife, Pam of Darien, CT. He also leaves his 4 beloved grandchildren, Natalie Dysenchuk of Scarsdale, NY and Blair, Marika and Nicholas Dysenchuk of New York City and several nieces and nephews. Jane Kirwin was Paul's faithful caretaker and friend for the last 3 years of his life. A funeral service will be held, Wednesday April 2, 2014 at 11:00am in St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, 26 New London Tpke., Glastonbury. A private burial will follow. Friends may call on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 from 4 to 7pm at the Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave, Glastonbury. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Paul's memory be made to the Glastonbury Riverfront Park and Boathouse c/o Town of Glastonbury 2155 Main Street Glastonbury, CT 06033.
