Joanne and I met as teenagers at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft. Joanne, June (Wilson) Clark and I soon became good friends. We were the "3 Musketeers" and had a blast together. Joanne was my Maid of Honor and the Godmother of my first born, Don. Even though we lived miles apart I never missed an opportunity to visit Joanne when I would go to see my parents in Columbia, CT. We stayed in touch either by phone or mail. She was a wonderful, generous person and I will miss her. I know in my heart that God will take good care of her.
With Sincere Sympathy,
Sue Hollister

To my Dear Friend JoAnne.
Thanks for being such a wonderful friend and co-worker. We had some laughs, some tears, lots of friend moments, and ideas to make the lab a funnier place but mostly lots of hugs.

There are few friends in our lives that remain special friends forever.
Joanne was that special friend to me.
Joanne and I met when we were 18 years old and just hired at Pratt & Whitney. As new hires we spent our work day in what was called the "pen". - The secured area all of us newbee's were keep while awaited our security clearances. When Joanne and my clearances came in we were assigned to the same engineering group. Our desks side by side.
Although we came from different backgrounds - She a French Catholic from the city and I an English protestant from the farm, we became fast friends. I was in awe of this beautiful French girl who was much savvier than I was. She was definitely the alpha in our relationship. I was just glad to follow her lead.
What fun we had! Joanne was a prankster and she tried ours bosses patience constantly. As an example, she would rearrange the top of their desks; hide their slide rule or their favorite pen in a different desk drawer. They knew she did it. But when confronted she would lift her chin and give them that famous deadpan look with her eyes that said, "Back off". And They did. Joanne would laugh while the sparkle came back to her eyes.
During those Pratt & Whitney years we rented an apartment together. Watched the Beatle's on Ed Sullivan together. Went to parties together. Shared our growing up experiences and our fears and dreams for the future.
Our futures took us in different directions. I moved away and our contact lessened. But our bond remained.
Both of us loved books. In later years, we read and discussed books together - a book club of two Joanne called it. Joanne was always firm and confident in her analysis and many times we just agreed to disagree. Joanne, my stubborn friend.
Joanne shared her writings with me. Again I was in awe. Now, of her talent and accomplishments. She taught me to write verse and poetry. She was a wonderful teacher. Thankfully, her critiques were always gentle. Joanne inspired me so much that I continue to write to this day. I thank Joanne every time my efforts are successful.
Joanne was the best friend whith whom I shared my darkest secrets knowing she would never judge me. She was a great listener. A true best friend. Her advice and support was always honest and came from her heart. Joanne, always true to her beliefs.
To watch my dear friend, Joanne, a beautiful, smart, talented woman decline mentally has been so sad. To understand that she and I would never again have our lively conversations broke my heart.
Joanne, my jewel of a best friend, I am glad you are at peace. I will miss you dearly. Always know, you have that place in my heart as my very special friend.
