"When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me." -1 Corinthians 13, verse 11
How true this is in my relationship with my step-father. As Jim entered my life, I was a child of 9 and my parents had recently divorced. My response was that of a child feeling resentment towards this new man in my mother's life and loyalty to my father. Over the next ten years he was Mr. Casserly, then Jim, then my mother's husband.
Only when I matured enough to recognize, understand and appreciate his gentle kindness, did Jim Casserly become my step-father. I am thankful for his patience and persistence during this time. For we were able to develop a close relationship for the next 30 years that taught me what being a good person really looks like. In all this time, not once did I ever hear Jim say an unkind word about any one. Never. This is the greatest learning and legacy he passed on to me. May we all strive to be as kind and forgiving in his honor. God Bless, Jim.

A true gentleman has departed from this Earth and has definitely gone straight to Heaven. We were all very privileged to have such a kind, caring, gentle, and patient stepfather/grandfather in Jim Casserly. Our family went from six to ten when our parents married. Jim took on five step-children with such grace, as he easily transitioned into our family. We also gained a wonderful stepsister and two stepbrothers. I lovingly called Jim "Jim Bob" until he was dubbed "Pop-Pop" when his first grandson was born. Pop-Pop will be greatly missed by all who knew him, because to know him was to instantly like/love him. Sending my love to you in Heaven Pop-Pop, until we meet again. Debbie
