Obituary of Jozef Martynowicz
Jozef S. Martynowicz, 87, passed away at home on Wednesday September 24, 2014. He was born February 27, 1927 in Poland, son of the late Jozef and Rosalia (Pernet) Martynowicz. Jozef resided in Glastonbury for most of his life, settling there shortly after coming to the United States in 1951 to pursue the American dream. After moving to Glastonbury, he was employed as a draftsman and chief estimator for Peerless Woodworking in East Glastonbury, where he was fondly referred to as "Marty", working there until his retirement. Jozef's interests included gardening, painting, woodworking, watching UCONN basketball and repairing anything that was broken. He was an avid golfer and a long-standing member of the Blackledge Country Club Men's League. Jozef was predeceased by his beloved wife of 46 years, Agnes "Lorraine" Martynowicz, and is survived by his son Jeffrey Martynowicz and his wife Edee of Glastonbury, daughter Pamela Cooke and her husband Darren of Marlborough, grandchildren Mackenzie and Gordon Cooke, and brothers Jan Martynowicz and his wife Izza of Pompano Beach, Florida and Zygmunt Martynowicz and his wife Linda of Camarillo, California. Jozef was one of the dwindling great generation that immigrated here to fulfill their dreams. He experienced Siberian concentration camps first hand, knew what it meant to have nothing and had the determination to work hard to build a comfortable life for himself and his family. He was a quiet, humble, unassuming man who taught us that if you focus on your dreams and do right by others, you can achieve anything. He will be sadly missed. A memorial service in celebration of Jozef's life will be held on Saturday October 4 at 11 a.m. in the Marlborough Congregational Church, 35 South Main Street, Marlborough. There are no calling hours. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Glastonbury Volunteer Ambulance Association, P.O. Box 453, Glastonbury, CT. 06033.
