Obituary of Gustave Schaller

Gustave "Guy" Schaller, 63, passed away Sunday, September 28, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer. Gus passed peacefully and quietly, surrounded by loved ones. Gus grew up in Newington and was the son of Richard and the late Audrey Schaller. Gus enjoyed fishing, cars, riding motorcycles, the time he spent in Florida, and auto racing. Gus never went anywhere that he didn't have a friend. He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Renee and Brian Balda, and Dana and Joshua Sirois, and four grandchildren. Gus is also survived by his brothers and sisters and their spouses; Richard and Kathy Schaller of Rocky Hill, Greg and Nancy Schaller of Waterford, Audrey and Johnny Caruso of Wallingford, Sandy and Greg Petela of Waterford, and Joanne Schaller and Sandra Tullius of Durham, along with numerous nieces and nephews, and his devoted companion, Lisa Mazzoccoli. Lisa never left Gus' side throughout his long illness. Gus' family is very thankful for the wonderful care he received from the nurses, aides and doctors of 5th floor central, at the Hospital of Central Connecticut. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to Gus' aunt, June Barrett, who has provided strength and support to all of us throughout these many months. A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday Oct. 18 at 10:00am in Holy Spirit Church, 183 Church St., Newington. Burial will be private. Immediately following the Mass the family will be receiving friends in the church hall. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 825 Brook St., Rocky Hill, CT. 06067 or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 20 Batterson Park Rd., Farmington, CT. 06032.
