Obituary of Michael Stepas

Michael Edward Stepas, beloved father, brother, and friend, died Monday, December 29, 2014, at Hartford Hospital. He was born March 21, 1951 in Hartford, CT, the only son and youngest child of Walter and Caroline Stepas. Michael is survived by his daughters, Katherine Hathaway and Hannah Stepas, in addition to their mother, Mary Marchut, and his son-in -law Keith Hathaway. He is also survived by his wonderful sisters and brothers-in-law, Karen and David Prendergast, and Carol and Tony Goulart. He also leaves several aunts, many cousins and countless friends. Michael graduated from University of Connecticut in 1973 where he acquired his religious loyalty to UCONN basketball. He had a long career in the aerospace industry. Michael loved his Charlestown, Rhode Island cottage, golfing, fishing for steelhead and salmon, and avidly following UCONN basketball, all while trying to get a good laugh. He loved Star Trek and John Belushi; he loved pizza, and wine from the St. Julien region in France, his family and many friends. His family would like to express sincere gratitude to the nurses and doctors at Hartford Hospital Bliss 11 Step Down, who worked so hard on Michael's behalf. Viewing hours will be held Friday, January 2, 2015, from 4-8 PM at the Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Avenue in Glastonbury. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday Jan 3 at 11am in St. Augustine Church, 55 Hopewell Rd., South Glastonbury.
