Obituary of Steven Blackmore
Steven James Blackmore, 71, of Glastonbury, Connecticut, beloved husband of Carolyn S. Blackmore died Tuesday (January 13, 2015) at Hartford Hospital, Hartford, CT surrounded by his family and many friends after a short illness. He was born in Knoxville, TN on April 13, 1943 the son of Esther and John Blackmore. Steven graduated from Amherst High School, Amherst, MA and The University of Massachusetts in 1966 with a degree in Political Science. He went on to graduate school at the University of Connecticut where he studied Economics and later received a Masters in Computer Science at RPI. Steven began his career at Pratt and Whitney as a Systems Analyst. He was a Computer Consultant for DBMI and later worked for International Aero Engines. He retired from IBM in 2008 where he was a Business Consultant. Steven and his wife of forty- eight years, Carolyn, met in college. They married six days after graduation and moved to Glastonbury where they raised their family. Steven was a Past President of First Church of Christ Glastonbury where he was active in Stewardship and many other committees. He was "Mr. Techie" who spent hours on the computer researching family genealogy. He loved to read and did so at an incredible speed. He and Carolyn loved to entertain and opened their home to friends, colleagues and neighbors at every opportunity. He was truly a gentle person with a huge heart always thinking of others before him. Besides his wife he leaves a daughter Kimberly Kaplan and her husband Kris of Glastonbury, and son Robert and his wife Alison of Avon, CT. His family meant everything to him. He was so proud of all they did and who they were. His life became enormously enriched by the arrival of his six grandchildren Matthew and Hannah Kaplan, and Andrew, Ryan, Ashley and "Robbie" Blackmore. Grampy loved to spend time on the beach in York, ME with his family. As an amateur photographer he loved to take pictures of their many trips and family events. He is survived by his twin brother, John, and wife Sheila, nephews Jonathan and Nathan of Redwood City, CA and his brother Bill of Ridgefield, MN. The family would like to thank the out -pouring of support from countless friends and neighbors during his illness most importantly long time friends Marsha and Bill Hogue. Calling hours will be at the Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury on Friday, January 16 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Funeral Service will be at First Church of Christ, Congregational, 2183 Main Street, Glastonbury on Saturday, January 17 at 11:00 am.
