Obituary of Carole Wiegand

Carole (Baldwin) Wiegand, 71, of Glastonbury died peacefully on March 17, 2015 at Manchester Hospital. Carole was born in New Britain on March 28, 1943 to the late Ira C. and Irene (Stewart) Baldwin. She attended school in several states before graduating in 1961 from Mariemont High School near Cincinnati, OH. Returning to Connecticut, she enrolled at UConn where she received her BS in Nursing in 1965. In 1984 she completed an MS in the area of Nursing Management after which she held nursing leadership positions at the Ona M. Wilcox School of Nursing, later the Wilcox College of Nursing, at Middlesex Hospital and senior positions at Connecticut Educational Services (now The Reynolds Clinic, Middletown). Surviving Carole is her husband of 51 years, Walter J. Wiegand, of Glastonbury; a son Kurt Wiegand his wife Jennifer and children Audrey, Jakob and Joshua of Canton, GA; a sister Diane Baldwin and a brother Charles Baldwin and his wife Denise all of Michigan; and an aunt, cousins and nieces in Connecticut and beyond. Besides her parents she was predeceased by a beloved daughter, Karen, who was taken too soon by cancer. Prior to her declining health, Carole was a strong advocate for Breast Cancer awareness being a two time survivor herself. Although experiencing an increasing loss of memory in recent years she remained in good spirits with a ready smile for everyone. For the past several years she made her home at Emeritus at Buckingham Estates a memory care facility in Glastonbury. The family wishes to thank the staff and nurses at Buckingham for their abundant kindnesses and the warm, compassionate care provided to Carole. Calling hours on Sunday March 22, 2015 from 1 to 3 at the Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave, Glastonbury, will provide an opportunity for family and friends to share memories of Carole.
