Obituary of Paul Rochford

Rochford. Paul Edward Rochford Esq, 93, of Glastonbury CT, passed away March 25, 2015. Born the third child of Thomas Rochford and Julia (Coss) Rochford on May 25, 1921. Paul received a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry at Queens College, and LL. B. at New York University Law School in 1950 and was admitted to the New York Bar Association in 1954. After gaining his degree at Queens College, Paul served as a chemist for the Manhattan Project at Columbia University, and then continued that work and extended as a patent agent at the US Atomic Energy Commission at Brookhaven Labs, LI, NY in 1948. After admission to the Bar in New York, Paul had a 67 year career as patent counsel for Olin Matheson in New Haven, CT and General Electric in CT, RI and Schenectady, NY. Paul married Angela Leary, also a graduate of Queens College, on February 3, 1951. They enjoyed a loving marriage of 59 years and raised a family of six children. Paul was strong supporter of the arts and was appointed to various roles promoting culture in the town of Stratford, CT during the 1960's including helping to found the Childrens' Theater, serving as Chairman of the Sterling Summer Art Show, and cofounding and serving as President of the Stratford Cultural Commission. Paul was a devoted husband who was fully committed through thick and thin, a resilient and determined father who gave love unconditionally, and a good neighbor. Paul possessed an inventive mind and generous spirit. He was a lover of music, an accomplished painter and skilled golfer early in his life. He was continuously inquisitive, had a quick wit, enjoyed a bit of mischief and was generally fun to be around. Paul is predeceased by his wife Angela, and his eldest daughter Ellen. Paul is survived by five of his six children, Celia Rochford Toraya of Johns Island, SC; Timothy Rochford and wife, Ann, of East Greenwich, RI; Jane Rochford of Middletown, CT; Susan Rochford and husband, Andrew Spatz, of Wakefield, RI; and Paul Rochford Jr. of Providence, RI. Sharing in their deep loss are five grandchildren, Erin Toraya, Jules Toraya, Grace Rochford, Conor Rochford and Devin Rochford. Funeral Service will be Saturday, March 28, 2015, 4:00, at the Mulryan Funeral Home 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury.
