Obituary of Louis Miazga

Louis "Lou" Miazga, age 76, most recently of Boston and a long time Connecticut resident and businessman, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday March 25, 2015. He was born in Northampton, Massachusetts, to the late Louis and Katherine (Kielbowicz) Miazga. Lou moved to Connecticut in 1960, which marked the beginning of over 50 years in the restaurant business. After early stints in operational roles with McDonald's and Kentucky Fried Chicken, he became an Arthur Treacher's Fish & Chips franchisee, ultimately owning seven stores in Massachusetts and four stores in Connecticut. He later co-founded the Congress Rotisserie restaurant in Hartford in 1986 with his former wife, Dorothy Miazga. By the late 1990's the restaurant had evolved to several Congress Rotisserie take out stores in Connecticut and finally to the present Congress Rotisserie Catering & Delivery, which is now operated by his son Michael. Lou loved dining out and was a regular at many restaurants in Boston and the greater Hartford area. He played homage to his Polish heritage by enjoying Polish music, dancing and food over the years. He especially enjoyed talking to people and was known for having long and regular conversations about the stock market and business with a close circle of friends. He liked to laugh and kid and maintained a life-long positive and persistent demeanor even as he battled cancer in the last year. Lou is survived by his beloved partner, Nancy Soule of Boston. He is also survived by his daughter Kathy Biederman and his son Michael Miazga of West Hartford, Connecticut; four grandsons, Derek and Brent Biederman, Michael T. and Jordan Miazga. He leaves his sister Sally Mowduk and her husband Dick of Venice, Florida; his brother Raymond Miazga, and his nephews Steven and Jim Mowduk of New Mexico. Lou also leaves a special circle of extended family and several long time business associates and friends. The family would like to thank the medical team at Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center for their support and care provided to Lou during his illness. A Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday April 11, 2015 at 10:30AM at Saint Paul's Roman Catholic Church, 2577 Main Street, Glastonbury, Connecticut. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Louis Miazga to the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center. Checks should be written to The Massachusetts General Hospital, c/o MGH Development Office, 100 Cambridge Street, Suite 1310, Boston, 02114. For online condolences please visit www.mulryanfh.com.
