Obituary of Mary Welk

Mary E. (Monroe) Welk, 81, of East Hartford, beloved wife of Robert D. Welk, Sr., died Sunday January 30, 2011 at Riverside Health Care Center. Born July 17, 1929 in Danbury, CT., daughter of the late Earl F. and Elsie (Almy) Monroe she had lived in East Hartford since 1956. She had worked in the cafeteria for the East Hartford Public School system. Mary was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority at UCONN and a past president of the Episcopal Church Women at St. James Episcopal Church. Besides her husband she is survived by her children Elizabeth Welk of New Britain, Robert D. Welk, Jr. of Wethersfield, Margaret McClure of Wethersfield, a grandson Matthew McClure of Wethersfield, and a brother Earl Monroe, Jr. of Old Saybrook. A memorial service will be celebrated on Friday Feb. 4 at 11am in St. James Episcopal Church, 2584 Main St., Glastonbury. A reception will follow in the church social hall. There are no calling hours.
