Obituary of Phyllis A. Costello
Phyllis (Anthony) Costello (Phyl), born December 18, 1925, in Hartford, CT to Everett R. Anthony, and Flora Adair Anthony, died peacefully on April 19th at St Francis Hospital. Phyllis was a life long resident of Connecticut, residing in Glastonbury for the past 25 years. She grew up in East Hartford, graduating with the 1943 EHHS class. In her youth, Phyllis was an accomplished violinist playing at many local events and was accepted to the New England Conservatory at the age of 16. While unable to pursue a career in music, she did continue to share her talent locally throughout the years. Phyllis was pre-deceased by her husband of 45 years, John Francis Costello, her sister, Fern Mikelis and her son Brian Anthony Costello. She is survived by her brother Russell Anthony and his wife Betty of Manchester, NH, her son Donald Costello and his wife Sue of Preston Ct, her daughter, Maureen Miller, and her husband Matthew of Glastonbury, CT. Phyllis is also survived by her grandchildren, Amy and Nick Costello, Eric and Ryan Miller, her great granddaughter Liliana Aguilar, and by a wonderful circle of extended family and friends that she was blessed to have throughout her lifetime. Phyllis was a person focused on her love of God and Family. Her children, grand children, and great grandaughter, were the focus and light of her life. Phyllis worked for many years in the Post Office, and then retired after an additional 20 years of work at Southern New England Telephone. Phyllis was a member of the Glastonbury United Methodist Church and had been very active throughout the years playing a role on many boards and committees, and was especially active in Church Women United. Prior to moving to Glastonbury, Phyllis was also very active and continued to participate in activities with Crystal Lake Methodist Church, and Wesley Methodist Church in East Hartford. Phyllis was also an active participant over the past few years in services and activities at South Congregational Church in East Hartford. The family would like to extend heartfelt thank you to the caregivers that allowed her to return to her home for many months this year, getting her back to her afternoon tea with her friends, BINGO, a little bit of wii bowling, and birthday parties! Without your support, this would not have been possible. A Service in celebration of Phyllis’ Life will be held at Glastonbury United Methodist Church on Friday, April 24th at 11:00. Friends may visit with the family prior to the service from 9:00 to 10:30 at the Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Glastonbury United Methodist Church, South Congregational Church Memorial Garden Fund, or Habitat for Humanity. Internment of her ashes will be in the South Church Memorial Garden at a later time.
