Obituary of Russell Peter Roushon
Russell Peter Roushon passed away suddenly on Sunday evening, June 7, 2015 at the age of 72.
Russell was born in Hartford on December 18, 1942, and lived an athletic, active and productive life. Russ and his brothers, Lou and George grew up in Wethersfield. Russell graduated from Wethersfield High School in 1961 where he was a bruising fullback and a stalwart of the first Wethersfield High football team. Along with his teammates he helped to provide the foundation upon which that historically successful program was built and in 2014 he was inducted into the Wethersfield Hall of Fame. Russ continued his athletic passion throughout his life as a fan (Red Sox, NY Giants, UCONN) and participant (golf and skiing).
Russell had many great passions, he loved people and took an interest in everybody, especially family and friends. But most of all he loved his wife Megan, adored her. They have been constant and inseparable for over 20 years, they loved taking on projects together, traveling and entertaining.
Today our hearts ache for a man who was charismatic, caring, a lover of life and for many of us a pillar and patriarch, one of a kind.
Russell is survived by his wife Megan Schardt of Coventry, his adult children Keith and Rebecca in Florida, and his brother George Roushon of Wethersfield and pre-deceased by his brother Lou. He is also remembered and revered by a large extended family and many dear friends with whom he shared the joys of his full life.
An Open House for friends and family will be held to celebrate Russ’s life at Russell and Megan’s home at 1147 Grant Hill Rd in Coventry on Sunday, June 14th from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to one of Russell’s favorite charities:
Mercy Housing and Shelter Corporation, 211 Wethersfield Avenue, Hartford CT 06114
Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Road, Newington, CT 06111
