Obituary of Robert J. Carini

Robert Joseph Carini, 93 of Glastonbury, died Tuesday January 5, 2016 at the Glastonbury Healthcare Center. He was born July 19, 1922 in Hartford, CT. He lived in Glastonbury most of his life. He served his country in World War II and was a Purple Heart recipient. He was owner and operator of Continental Auto in Glastonbury with his son Wayne until his retirement. He was the co-founder of the model A restorers car club of America in 1952. He was well known for his quality auto body work, his restorations of automobiles, collector and restorer of Honda dream motorcycles. He was the curator of the Captain Paul House Model A Museum formerly in Union Connecticut. He was the recipient of the Antique Automobile Club of America lifetime achievement award. He has many fans around the world that loved his appearances on his son's TV show Chasing Classic Cars. He enjoyed his later years with his family, attending car events with his good friend Paul McCollum and collecting bicycles. He was known for his jokes and made all laugh wherever he went. He is survived by his wife Masako of East Hartford and her children, Roy, Raymond, Roland and Robert Charette, and Rachel Frenetic. He is survived by his children and their spouses, Wayne and Laurie Carini of Portland, Lynn Swendiman of Redding California, Kathleen and Bryson Gwinnell of Wilton New Hampshire, grandchildren, Kimberly, Lindsay, Jessica, Kelly and Julie. The family wishes to thank his healthcare friends Anna and Lucy for their love and devotion as well as the excellent staff at Glastonbury HealthCare Center and Masonicare Hospice. Funeral services will be held Tuesday January 12, 2016 at 10 a.m. in the Mulryan Funeral Home 725 Hebron Avenue, Glastonbury. Burial will follow in St. Augustine Cemetery, South Glastonbury. Friends may call at funeral home Monday January 11, 2016 from 4 pm to 6pm. and Tuesday morning one hour prior to the service.
