Obituary of John A. Barton

John A Barton("Lovie") died peacefully in his home at Diamond Lake on June 25,2016 surrounded by his wife and family. John leaves his beloved wife, Cindy, loving sons Jonathan (Elise) of Middletown and Patrick (Tanni) of Brooklyn NY: Father Charles, Sister Sally and brother Peter of Glastonbury: sister Nancy Fellinger (Leif) of Simsbury as well as many relatives and dear friends. John was predeceased by his mother Clare, brother Charles, and former wife Gail. John was born May 25,1952 in Patterson NJ to Charles and Clare (Bishop) Barton and was raised in Glastonbury. He graduated from Colgate University with a BS degree in Biology and obtained Masters degrees from UCONN and RPI in Finance, Economics and Applied Economics. John lived in Middletown for many years where he raised his family and was active in local politics. He produced a local community access TV program called Middletown Forum, along with his friend Earle Roberts. John returned to Glastonbury eleven years ago and resided at Diamond Lake in a home he dearly loved. John was President of Barton Associates, a company started by his father Charles. He was an entrepreneur who created a number of business interests. A peaceful man, full of wisdom and kindness, John had a warm smile, sparkling blue eyes and a quiet sense of humor. He was a rare Gem and was loved by many. He enjoyed history, music, hiking in the woods, working on his property and all things outdoors. He spent many happy summers at Lake Willoughby in Vermont. He loved competitive games, especially chess, Darts, Bocce and Bumper Pool. John was devoted to his family and passionate about his work. He experienced many happy adventures with his wife and soulmate, Cindy. Their travel tours will be continued. The USA versus Quebec Bocce Tournament at Moody Beach will continue this year in his honor. The family would like to thank Dr. Alexandra Flowers and the caring staff at Helen and Harry Gray Cancer Center, Dr. Patrick Wen and the wonderful staff at Dana Farber as well as the many caring Therapists and Nursing assistants at Glastonbury Healthcare Center. A Memorial Service will be held, Thursday, July 7 at 6pm in Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave, Glastonbury. Calling hours will be held from 3pm to 6pm prior at the funeral home prior to the service. Burial will be private at the request of the family.
