Obituary of Thomas Fatsi

Thomas Fatsi, 91, of Glastonbury, CT, died peacefully in his sleep on August 14, 2016. He was born in 1925 in Thompson, CT, where he lived for most of his life. A stellar athlete, he excelled at basketball, baseball, and soccer, graduating from Tourtellotte Memorial High School in 1943. (He may have been just 5-foot-7, but he was quick, coordinated, and determined, and the school inducted him into its Hall of Fame in 2011.) During World War II, he served as a navigator, flying B-24 Liberator bombers in the Pacific in a famed unit known as the Jolly Rogers; after the war, he attended college on the G.I. Bill and graduated from the University of Hartford (then Hillyer College) with a degree in accounting. In 1950, he married the then Marguerite Parent in Putnam, CT, and they went on to have four children: Donna, Jon (who predeceased him), Thomas Joel, and Tim. In Thompson, he was a member of the Board of Finance, the Board of Tax Review, the local Lions Club, and the National Accountants Association, working as an accountant and eventually retiring as comptroller for the National Propane Corporation. Always active, he was an avid golfer for many years; when he could no longer walk an 18 hole course, he took up pool. Even at the age of 90, he shot pool at the Glastonbury Senior Center three times a week. He is survived by his wife, whom he loved as a devoted husband for 66 years; his daughter, Donna Fatsi Martinez, and her husband Michael Fromson; his son Thomas Joel Fatsi; his son Tim Fatsi and his wife, Michelle Fatsi; four grandchildren, Andrea Martinez Frey and her husband Kelly Frey, Evan Martinez, and Daniel and Zachary Fromson; and one adorable great-granddaughter, Sadie Frey. The family extends its gratitude and thanks to the staff and friends at the Glastonbury Healthcare Center. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association. There is a funeral mass at St. Paul Church, 2577 Main Street, Glastonbury at 11am on Friday, August 19, 2016. A private burial, with full military honors, will be held at a later date .For online condolences please visit www.mulryanfh.com.
