Obituary of John R. Morande

John R. (Jack) Morande, 63 of East Windsor, passed away at home on Monday, February 6, 2017. Born in Cambridge, MA on July 28, 1953, he was the son of the late James A. Morande, Sr. and Olive (Chatrand) Morande. Jack and his family moved to Glastonbury in 1959 where he was raised and lived for most of the past 58 years. He was a graduate of Glastonbury High School, Class of 1971. Jack was an entrepreneur - starting and managing several businesses throughout Connecticut. He began his career alongside his mother at her business, Bouvier Upholstery Shop in East Hartford. She taught him the skill and Jack utilized it throughout his life, beautifying furniture in his homes. In 1973 Jack went to work with his brother Jim at Olde Towne & Country Store and together they founded All Nighter Stove Works in Glastonbury. In 1976 he joined his brother Bill operating Morande Uniform. The bulk of Jack's professional success came in the automotive industry. In 1979 he joined his brothers Bob & Bill at Morande Automotive Group, serving as General Manager of Morande Ford & President of Morande Hyundai, both in Berlin and as Vice President of Morande Lincoln Mercury Mazda in Manchester. In 1997 he struck out on his own and purchased Simon Ford in Norwich. Shortly thereafter he started Coastline Motorsports in Old Saybrook. After selling these businesses, the entrepreneur in him could not rest, and he opened Midas of Enfield in 2009 and operated it at the time of his death. Despite his success in business, Jack was happiest spending time with his family. Whether a quiet day at home with his girls, or a holiday gathering or pool party with his very large extended family, Jack was at the center of it all, always making time to speak to every one of his guests, including the many children who were always present. No one walked away from a conversation with Jack feeling unappreciated. He was genuinely interested in the lives of his friends and family. On June 8, 1990, Jack married Christine Palmer in Rocky Hill. Together they raised three daughters who were the light of Jack's life. He is survived by his son Jeffrey Morande of Glastonbury; his daughters Michelle Morande of Wethersfield, Lauren Morande and Allison Morande of Glastonbury; his grandson Carter Paternostro; and his former wife Christine Morande of Glastonbury; brothers James Morande of Saco, ME, Robert and Alys Morande of Bonita Springs, FL, William Morande of The Villages, FL; his sister Susan and Joseph Dougherty of Glastonbury; sister-in-law Mary Ann Morande of Tolland; 21 nieces and nephews and countless friends, employees and business associates. He was predeceased by his sisters-in-law Paula Morande and Sandra Dagata, and his nephews James and Peter Morande, and Daniel Palmer. Jack's family will receive friends on Friday February 10 from 4-7 pm at Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Avenue, Glastonbury. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday February 11 at 10 am at St. Paul Church, 2577 Main Street, Glastonbury. Burial will follow in Green Cemetery, 77 Hubbard Street, Glastonb - See more at: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/hartfordcourant/obituary.aspx?n=john-r-morande&pid=184079697&#sthash.t7HbmrzM.dpuf
