Jiang Zhao and I were together for almost half of the time in his life. We were enrolled in University of Science and Technology of China in Hefei, China in 1983. We started our graduate school studies at 1988 in the same department of the same university as we did our undergraduate. We also went to University of Pittsburgh in the same year in 1992. Jiang earned his Ph.D. in 1997 and worked as a NIH Postdoctoral Fellow at Washington University in St. Louis, MO from 1997 to 2000. He then was employed at ChemRx Advanced Technology in South San Francisco, CA for three years. He joined Bristol-Myers Squibb in 2004 and we were colleagues for eleven years.
Jiang was diagnosed with late stage pancreatic cancer in January 2017. He was treated with chemotherapy at Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford for around four months. A couple weeks later he received radiation therapy at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York for five weeks from May, 2017. Jiang fought very hard for his life and had a lot of extremely difficult time. He suffered from severe pain, vomiting and difficulties in eating. But he stayed optimistic until his last day of life and never lost a sense of humor. He was very appreciative of everything friends and colleagues had done for him and his family.
Jiang was a very good scientist and colleague. He was always willing to help. He was very energetic in studying and working as well as in many other activities. He took extra teaching tasks while he was in graduate school in Pittsburgh and still had time for things like fishing and traveling. He also helped me in shopping for my first car and trained me on driving.
I am in deep sorrow mourning over the loss of Jiang. I hope that Lord brings Jiang and his family the much needed peace during this sad time. My heartfelt condolences to Jiang, his family and relatives.

Rest In Peace Dr. Zhao! We were in the same grade in USTC, though not in the same class. We must have crossed paths many times on campus although we didn't talk to each other. I felt like I lost a dear friend and sadness filled my heart.

Jiang, we were roommates for the first few months after we entered the college. We walked to the class, meals and library together. Subsequently we all moved from Physics to Chemistry department, continued having lots of fun together. I met you a few times when you were working in the Bay Area, you were still big and I was thin.

上个世纪末，我们全家来到华人较少的圣路易斯。上网一查，一科大的兄弟也在华盛顿大学。立即约了见面。大约是黄昏时分，赵江打来电话，说快到我家门口了，我说我出去迎你。迎面而来一位大腹便便的先生，我没敢相认，他倒是认出了我。我的第一句话就是：“美国的生活这么好啊……”原来120斤不到的老朋友，一下子变成了200多磅的重量级选手。打那以后，我们二家几乎每个周末在一起，一直到一年半以后我们搬走。
赵江有一位可爱的太太，和二位可爱的公子。无论大人还是孩子，从来没有闹过矛盾，也算神奇。出去游玩，赵江总是负责开车、看包。是个憨厚的丈夫和父亲。
