Obituary of Jean Froncak Casella

Jean C. (Froncak) Casella, 79, of Glastonbury, passed away on Thursday, (11/02/17)

after a long illness.  Jeannie, as she was known, was a lifelong resident of Glastonbury.  She was predeceased by her parents Lawrence and Mary Froncak and ten brothers and sisters. Jean

was married to Jon A. Casella for 52 years, prior to his passing in January of 2011.  She is survived by seven nephews and nieces, Robert Larrabee, Gerald Larrabee, Carol Frederico, Frances DiNatale, Patricia Noble, Wendy Zuilkowski and Candace Baller. Besides her family, she leaves behind her husband’s cousin and “little brother”, Alfred Pucci with whom she had a close relationship for the past 64 years and her husband’s Godson, Michael Pucci and his wife Kim and their three daughters, Hannah, Haley and Laurel. Jeannie graduated from Glastonbury High School in 1956.  She worked briefly for J. B. Williams Co., before becoming the Manager’s Secretary at Consolidated Cigar Co. in 1957. She worked at this position into the late 1970’s. Jean then worked for her husband’s business, JA Casella Custom Excavating as Secretary and Bookkeeper.  JA Casella Custom Excavating developed land and many home sites within the Town of Glastonbury. Jeannie later assumed the role as General Contractor for several speculation homes that were built. Jean and Jack made many philanthropic donations to the Town of Glastonbury, collectively worth millions of dollars, which included development of various school playscapes and athletic fields, as well as donations of defibrillators to the Police Department.  Jeannie also planted and raised pumpkins on Owens Lane for many years. She loved animals and had St. Bernard dogs and ponies. Jeannie will always be remembered for her congenial manner and pleasant smile. She made each day better for all of those around her. She will be sorely missed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday November 11 at 10am in St. Augustine Church, 55 Hopewell Road, South Glastonbury.  Burial will follow in St. Augustine Cemetery.
