Obituary of Jere A. Carangelo

 

Jere A. Carangelo, 64, of West Hartford and Stuart, Florida passed away peacefully at his home on April 23, 2019. Born September 6, 1954 in Hartford, CT, he was the son of the late Dr. John and Muriel (Acker) Carangelo. He graduated from The Kingswood School and received his BS and MS degrees from The Wharton School of The University of Pennsylvania.  Jere was a CPA and held senior positions at Ernst & Young and St. Francis Hospital.  He was also co-owner of The New England Window Company. He enjoyed the Thursday night basketball crew, fantasy football, and tailgating at UConn football games. Always the strategist, he parlayed his basketball acumen in coaching Glastonbury Special Olympics Basketball to the Gold Medal. Jere was an avid golfer and always looked forward to the annual golf outing in Vermont. Jere served on the Board of The Jubilee House and was Chairman of the Board of St. Agnes Home. He was an active communicant at St. Thomas the Apostle Church. Jere leaves his partner, Natalie Cummings, and his siblings: Jay and Gail Carangelo of Manchester, Jane and Dick Slagle of New Canaan, Jill and Bob Ailleo of Greenwich, and Jim and Lucie Carangelo of Glastonbury. He also leaves his nieces and nephews: Jay, Dan, and Tracey Carangelo, John and Ned Slagle, Alyssa Wade and Amanda Ailleo Shah, and Catherine, Jimmy, and Jack Carangelo also, Colin, Brenden and Connor Cummings. He was predeceased by Robert Ailleo, Jr. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday April 27 at 10 am in St. Thomas Apostle Church, 872 Farmington Ave., West Hartford (friends are asked to meet directly at church). Entombment will follow in Mount St. Benedict, Cemetery. Friends may call at the Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury on Friday April 26 from 5-8pm.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Special Olympics Glastonbury, c/o Tina Yenkner, 65 Spellman Point Rd, East Hampton, CT  06424.
