Me and my wife were so sorry to hear of Jack's passing -- he was a true gentleman - to everyone, great and small -- and he gave us a chance at contracting when we were just starting out -- and made sure we didn't lose on any job ...
We will not forget him and his code of respect and concern for everyone he knew ---
Jack was a great person and friend -- RIP Jack -- You're the Best ...!!

I still miss my Uncle Jack every day, but feel him present with our family every time we gather. Fortunately, that always has been, and forever will be, often. Our family is so close that I was privileged to know him not just as an uncle, but akin to another parent. He was loving, gracious, generous and treated everyone he met with kindness and respect. He was a cornerstone of our family and remains so, but is deeply missed. I love you, Uncle Jack.

Jack is my brother. His treasures were his wife, his large extended family and his many friends. His business was a means to nurture. His marriage was one of the best that I have ever witnessed. His, was a life well lived. It would be nice to say that I got Jack last, but I think it was a draw. Out taps on the shoulder were more than 58 years of I got you lasts, they were an eternal connection. There are no lasts, only to be continueds. We will always be together. I love you Jack!

Dear Coleen and Family,
Leslie and I would like to express our deepest sympathy to you and your family during this difficult time.
My fondest memory of Jack was one of the Hartley annual fishing trips which is still active after 30+ years and all the banter prior to the event which Jack was a part of.
The day of the fishing trip, everyone would come wearing their ancient fishing clothes, except Jack! He would be in his short sleeve dress shirt and pressed pants, Mr. Proper, as I called Jack.
Then there’s the picnic basket that he brought for the trip. On this occasion, Jack was taking his time unpacking toast and spreading jam (with a real knife) while on the tiny 16’ old wooden boat! Then someone yelled, “Fish On Line”, Jack calmly set aside his breakfast spread and manned the net.
We were fortunate to cross paths and will miss Jack. We will be sure to pay a tribute on our next annual fishing trip this coming summer!
Ha & Leslie

To the Muirhead family. My name is Russ Wells. Years ago, as an employee of BK Corp. , I was the Franchise District Mgr. who helped Jack open his Newington location. Jack was a great Franchisee but more important to me a great guy and a good friend. As I moved on over the years, I always checked on how Jack was doing. Every once in a while we would run into each other at a BK event and relive the "good old days". Always enjoyed spending time with Jack. So sorry to hear of Jack's passing

Dear Coleen and Family,
I always enjoyed delivering mail to Burger King and visiting with Jack whenever he was available. He always took time out of his busy day to take a moment and chat. I remember when I was seeking funds for a clown for the Big Brothers Big Sisters annual picnic Jack was kind enough to donate. He had a way of making you feel special no matter what walk of life you came from. We often shared stories of our families and how everyone was doing. I offer my condolences to all the family members. May he rest in peace with the Lord.

Dear Coleen and family,
It’s been many years since fraternity days at UH. I have fond memories of Jack and though we haven’t been in touch, I can see by reading about him and his family and accomplishments, that he is very much the great person that I knew back then. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Sorry to hear of Jack's passing. I worked my first job for Jack in Newington and working up to manager in the mid to late 1980's. I helped to open the Wethersfield and East Hartford restaurants as well as working in the Vernon store. I learned a lot from Jack as well as Dave D. He was great person and was very thoughtful to his employees. I learned a lot about the business from him and it has helped me to be successful in business.
Sincerely,
Dante Roccasecca

Jack was the best! 40 years ago, while starting his Burger King franchise, he took a chance and hired my dad as an assistant. Together they built one of the top franchises the company has ever seen. But he was more than just the boss. He was a kind and caring person who was so invested in what you had to say. I loved to visit with him and talk about the Huskies, Indianapolis Colts, and Boston Red Sox. We had all their problems solved!
I cannot thank him enough for what he's done for me and my family. He's always been so inviting and gracious to my girls. When we're in town, they loved to see him when they would go work with grandpa. We're all going to miss him so much. He has such an amazing family who are in our thoughts and prayers.
Sincerely,
Brian, Leigh, Madelyn & Amelia Demers

To Coleen and family: Jack Muirhead is one of my best fraternity brothers. Through all our University of Hartford years as brothers in Lambda Phi Alpha fraternity we had acres of fun. What is most important is to know how kind and decent Jack was. He may never have known how proud I was of his accomplishments from Auggie and Rays to the outstanding businessman he became over the years. On a visit home to Wethersfield and a lunch ar Burger King on Silas Deane I was glad to tell the folks who served me that I was Jack's friend. I kept contact by way of Aldor and Susan DuBois whose son lives here in Helena Montana who kept me close. I get the Hartford Courant online and was stunned to see the notice and called Al and Sue only to find that they did not get their paper today. I was shaken to tears and had to leave the phone. Coleen please know that I have you and Jack in my prayers all the way from Helena Montana.

It is with absolute sadness that we learned today of Jack’s passing. Jack was a kind, compassionate, giving, thoughtful, caring man, Who was an astute listener able to give thoughtful responses, and always with a great sense of humor. His love for you Coleen was awe inspiring. Both you, Colleen, and Jack and David welcomed our son, Matthew, into your summer vacations, year after year, helping to solidify their friendships and insure the boys had great childhood memories. Heaven has gained a giant. Jackie And Neil Somberg

I read this this morning and believe it’s the same John (Jackie) Muirhead that lived next to me on New Britain Avenue in Hartford. We were best friends/playmates growing up. I moved out of Hartford in 1957 and lost track of Jackie. So sorry for the families loss. But it seems he had a wonderful life.4

Words aren’t enough to say how much Jack meant to Jim and I. He always had a smile on his face and treated everyone as if they were special. I saw first hand how much Jack truly loved Coleen and his children. And all his grandchildren were an extension of his love. Jack will be really missed by all of us who love him.

Jack made me feel like family too. I worked for Jack and brothers at Auggies in New Britain CT while attending college. A very understanding and likeable guy. He and his brothers have always been extremely nice to me over the years. After not seeing Jack for some time, about 10 years after college it was like nothing had changed. Sorry to the Muirhead family for losing such a wonderful person. I hope your deep bereavement turns to happy memories soon.

I can't remember a greater shock and sense of sadness to read of the passing of Jack. Rarely without a smile on his face and kindness in his voice. Absolutely someone you could call anytime you needed a friend. My deepest condolences to Coleen and the children and grands. I have always missed the Gourmet Gang gatherings since moving south and especially conversations with Jack about business or cars or any number of things he was able to contribute. A very special guy who will missed by all who knew him. He is at peace with his savior and have eternal rest as his reward. God Bless Jack,

Growing up in Manchester I spent countless hours at the Muirhead house. Mr. Muirhead was so welcoming to all of John III's friends. He was such a kind, loving, patient, thoughtful man. I dont ever remember him without a smile. He was truly like a second father to me. Mr. and Mrs. Muirhead were the ideal of a happy couple and incredibly loving parents. He will be so missed, but the memories he left behind will last forever.

When our daughter Judy was engaged to Jack’s son John III,my late husband and I met Jack and Coleen and loved them immediately as warm welcoming people, instant family. They were the perfect example of a loving, respecting marriage that we would want for the children.
Jack was the ultimate gentleman. Every conversation with him was challenging and engaging. He could disagree with you but respect your viewpoint. He was generous to a fault. It was a fight to try to share a dinner check with him.
All of the Linn family will miss him and send love to the beautiful Muirhead family.
