Obituary of John Joseph Muirhead, Jr.

John Joseph “Jack” Muirhead, Jr. died peacefully at home on December 16, 2020. Jack was born in Hartford and spent his life in Connecticut. He was a graduate of East Hartford High School and the University of Hartford, and he proudly built a successful business as a Burger King Franchisee. Jack leaves behind Coleen, the love of his life, his high school sweetheart and wife of 52 years. Jack and Coleen’s story is a true love story that set the example for the rest of his beloved family, including his three children, Melissa (Dan) Charpentier, John III (Judy) Muirhead, and David (Alexandra) Muirhead. Jack also leaves behind his adoring grandchildren, Caden & Noah Charpentier, Matthew & Jack Muirhead, and Marlow & Roman Muirhead, all of whom loved their Gpa so much, his brothers Richard (Denise) Muirhead and David (Tamaria) Muirhead, and his brothers-in-law Richard (Janis) Hartley and William (Helen) Hartley. Jack also loved his nieces and nephews, Rick, Cindy (Will), Mike, Matt, Logan, Maggi, Becky, Rich (Allie), Laianna, and Michele, and many dear friends. He was predeceased by his parents Margaret & John Muirhead. Jack’s second family was his New King, Inc. family of loyal employees and colleagues. He ran his business with intelligence, kindness, and respect. In truth, everyone who knew Jack was family to Jack. He had a gift of making people feel special and loved. He was interested in them, and he listened. Jack enjoyed life’s simple beauties, like a day at the beach, a comfortable recliner, a bowl of cherries in the summer, a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Jack was curious about many topics, he loved to read and learn, but his greatest hobby was his love of classic cars, and he had an encyclopedic knowledge of them. In recent years, Jack enjoyed travel, and he celebrated his 50th anniversary in Italy with his whole family. Anyone who knew Jack loved Jack. He will be missed by many and deeply. Calling hours will be Friday, December 18, 5-7 p.m. at Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Avenue, Glastonbury (masks and social distance are required). A private funeral will be held thereafter.
