Evelyn Smith M.D. posted a condolence

I was privileged to know Mabel for many years.
She was a uniquely wonderful individual, who was solely concerned about everyone around her.
In our early years together, I heard great stories about her cherished family, especially her grandchildren; and she was always inquiring about my growing family, as my children had children of their own.
As she faced health challenges over the past several years, she did so with her characteristic grace and dignity, never complaining or seeking sympathy. With each additional problem, she would simply say, "what are you gonna do?", and generally maintained her good spirit and sense of humor.
She was kind; thoughtful; loving and a bright light every time she graced our office.
Her devoted children admirably assured that she had the best possible care, even in her last weeks.
I share your grief and will miss her very much.
Evelyn Smith, M.D.

Condolences from the Majek's of South Dakota. I was doing some family history searching through Google and I don't know if we're distantly related ... but there's so few Majek's in the U.S. I'm sure the odds are pretty good that we are. Sorry to hear of Mae's passing. God bless and prayers of peace to her family & friends.

Mae was one of the sweetest women I have ever met. She was known as “tall” née-nee and my mother was “short” née-née. Short and Tall played a critical roll in so many lives.
Always a kind word, a smile, and some bourbon sweet potatoes to go around! She will be greatly missed. ❤️

My grandmother was my escape from reality. Every time we were together she would tell me how happy she was for me and proud of the man I have become. She was my #1 fan for everything I have ever done, and I could always count on her for making me feel special. She was so kind, generous, funny, and the perfect grandmother. There wasn’t much you couldn’t count on her for, whether it was snacks for the school week or cutting out the newspaper article with my picture in it. While we will all miss her dearly, I am so happy that she is back with her beloved husband, my grandfather, who she had to live over 20 years without. Thanks for everything, Nini. I can only hope to live a life so full of kindness and love like you did. I love and miss you.

The greatest thing I remember about Mae is her love for her grandkids. They brought her such joy! I remember one day at the beach when she took Olivia's hand and went skipping down to the water! She was so happy to play like a child.

I offer my sympathy to Mae’s family. When I joined Travelers Mae was one of the first to welcome me and offered kind words and guidance. She was always optimistic and her patience and kindness was felt by all who worked with her. She was truly an inspiration. She spoke of her family so often with a big smile and twinkle in her eyes! I was lucky to have known such a beautiful woman! God bless you all!

Nini I will miss you so much! You couldn’t help but smile whenever she was around. You were such a great grandmother to Sam Hattie Olivia and me. I miss sleeping over your house as a kid and having hot fudge sundaes and then waking up in the morning to waffles. You always did everything for us Nini and I love you!
