Russ was a tall, muscular boy in 9th grade. Before I knew him, I thought he was a tough kid, but as our friendship developed I recognized a deeply curious, funny and caring young man who I was proud to call a friend.

So sorry to hear of Russ's passing. He was a teammate of mine as well at MHS. Wish I had stayed in closer touch with him through the years. He had a great sense of humor, was a fierce competitor, and always a good friend. Rest in Peace, Russ.

Russ was a friend and a basketball teammate at MHS. On the court he was a passionate, fierce competitor, off the court he was as nice a teammate as one could be. I'm so sad to hear of his loss and his battle with cancer but it is no surprise that he fought the disease like he fought on the court, with ferocity and passion. May his family and friends view the pain of missing him as unexpressed love.

I am very sorry to hear of Russell's passing. I was lucky to have known Russell for more than 30 years while working with him at Konica Minolta. Although he worked through many challenges, he was always warm, funny and very practical. He was a fine and honorable man who we all will miss greatly. Rest in peace Russell.

While known for his strong voice, he was also a great listener.
Whether addressing the challenges from Japan to France, or our favorite subject was always our daughters and the joy they brought us. We never got to play that round of golf but I will always treasure the thoughts and in Business or life ask myself, what would Russel do?

When the enemy death strikes, your grief can be great, even though you may hope in the resurrection.
May these Bible verses offer consolation to Russell's loving family.
The hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life.”—John 5:28, 29.
God will wipe away every tear from their eyes,
and death shall be no more,
neither shall there be mourning, nor crying,
nor pain anymore,
for the former things have passed away. – Revelation 21:4

Russell was my little league teammate of mine and a kid lucky enough to grow up in our small town of Marlborough. He definitely was a “go with the flow” kid and a laugh was default language. My parents, the Calderas and the Anselmos spent many a summer weekend together with cards, fireworks, music and laughs. I remember fondly all of us piling into cars with our dads to drive to Springfield to see Bob Backland wrestle George The Animal Steele ! We all gathered to watch boxing matches and many town events at the lake. Russell was a cool kid and although I don’t think I ever saw him after 1979, I find joy in knowing he raised two beautiful daughters who loved him very much. The Anselmos were wonderful to this kid in the 70’s and I hope that they find comfort in the love they have for each other and feels God’s presence in their lives during this difficult time.

I am so saddened to say goodbye to a great friend and coworker. It was truly my pleasure to have become close with Russell after working together for so many years. I always loved hearing his upbeat stories of his trips to Nantucket, or Fenway, or the various concerts he attended with his family. His passion for life and his love of his family were obvious.
I will miss his bellowing voice, and his meat-hook hand-shake that could be like a vise-grip, both of which showed his positive energy and enthusiasm. The courageous and undeterred battle that he fought will always be an inspiration to me. My fond memories of Russ will remain forever. Rest easy Buddy-

I worked with Russell for 10+ years. It was a pleasure to have worked with Russell. He was knowledgeable, helpful and supportive. But more importantly, I got to know Russell's big smile and big laugh. They both came so easily... He will be missed.
My deepest condolences to his family.

You live on in that and many more memories. My sincerest condolences to all the family. You will be missed, but you are in God's memory...and ours.

Russell & I worked together off and on for about 30 years. We first met when I started at KM back in 1990. We both moved to New Jersey as service supervisors. Russ supervised the southern New Jersey Branch, while I supervised the northern New Jersey Branch. We continued our professional and personal relationships through the years in technical support and playing golf now and then. For the last few years he and I worked closely in our Solution Support Division and he always had a positive word or comment and a smile to share. He was as good a person as I have ever met. He was always supportive, positive, and willing to make the effort to do the right thing. It has been a true honor to know him and I will always carry his memory with me. He will always be an inspiration for me to focus on the positive and find the good in any situation. He truly made a difference in my life and I'm sure in the lives of those lucky enough to have known him. Thank you my friend for being the good, kind-hearted soul that you were and for making a positive impact on my life. You will be missed, but you will live forever in our hearts as we strive to emulate the standard of humanity that you demonstrated every day of your life. I still hear your booming voice and smile! Go in peace.

I met Russ 35 years ago when Nemish Patel, Jim Bussiere and I were UConn dental school classmates back in 1987. Now move forward to our Italian dinner in Sturbridge three weeks ago we were still having the same laughs and smiles…our bonds are forever young and that will never change.
Boy do we have stories to share:
Russ as “Jimesh’s” roommates in the house on S. Main Street west Hartford
Russ attending all of Nimesh’s planned sporting events ranging to UConn final fours, Red Sox and patriot playoff games…
Ultimately our July 4th vacations in Nantucket for the last 16 years were the best. We look forward to it as early as January as we book our cars on the website at 5 AM.
Our traditional round trip ferry rides with all our four families, Madeket sunset bonfires, our nightly courtyard potluck dinners followed by our can’t miss Juice Bar ice cream stops and Cisco brewery happy hours after beach time…
I Almost forgot…he enjoyed 18 holes with “Jimesh”minus Edgar
(Dentist who doesn’t play golf)
During our beach times we enjoy sharing our life experiences and thoughts and how to make this world a better place for our children. We loved all the debates between Nemish and Russ just to see who was more righteous… you could’ve imagined how that turned out.
More importantly I admire him always speaking to our kids with a proactive and supportive approach in life…
“Don’t give up… keep doing what you love”
Here are other random lasting memories:
Russ making my coffee as I hand him a specially made Nantucket waffle sandwich each morning- Can’t find good coffee in Nantucket…Russ became my barista.
Russ making fun of Nemish’s music genre for the last 35 years:
“ Who is playing now “Depressed Mode” (Depeche Mode) or “The Clue” (The Cure)?” With that sarcastic look on his face…you guys know the look.
I will especially missed our good hearted “ranking on each other” sessions over the years…Russ would always “one up us”!
So we had a great dinner and I was so happy to see his beautiful smile again last month (nice work Nemish) Before we parted ways in the parking lot I asked him one last time about joining us for one of the Celtics playoff games
He was very appreciative as I gave him a hug and walked him into Nemish’s Tesla with his worried look about getting sick “Thank you Edgar for everything but can you do one more thing for me…can you drive us back home to Connecticut?” I guess he liked my driving better…He lit me up with his smile again…
I was really hesitant to go to last Sunday’s clincher at TD Garden with having these mixed emotions but deep down inside knowing Russ, I could hear him saying to me, “Edgar PLEASE GO!!!”
So I did attend the game with my son Gabe…After the game Nemish text me:
“Russ, Jeff, and Dan brought home the Celtic win!”
And I texted back:
“Thank you to our angels“
Thank you Russ for being who you truly are and being part of our lives…
A simple man who we admired the most…we need more people like you in our lifetime so we could make this world a better place…

Russell and I have been close friends for over 20 years. We worked and traveled together many times for business, and socialized outside the office. We ensured time was allotted for regular dinner get-togethers where we would catch up and swap family stories. Russell always lit up when talking about his family and friends. I will certainly miss his positive presence in my life.
