Obituary of Daniel King
Daniel L. King, 66, of South Glastonbury, devoted and beloved husband of Susan (Goetze) King, died Sunday, November 13, 2011 at home due to progression of cancer. Dan was born February 10, 1945 in Ironwood, Michigan, son of the late Daniel Orlo and Mary Jane (Ravey) King. Prior to his retirement in 2006 he was an engineer for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft for 37 years. Dan received his BS in Mechanical Engineering from Bradley University in Peoria, IL and his MBA from the University of Hartford. Rather than let pancreatic neuroendocrine cancer defeat him, he used it as a calling to enjoy life even more. From the time of his diagnosis in 2004 Dan and Susan visited Brazil and Europe, drove across the country visiting family, friends, and seeing the sights; and regularly visited friends in Vermont to ski. He continued to enjoy weekly lunches with friends, his pool club, woodworking, and target shooting. Dan was a loving father and grandfather for his daughter Deborah King McGowan, her husband Sean McGowan, and their children Sydney and Garrett of Woodside, NY. Dan also leaves two sisters Susan Dallesasse of Elgin, Illinois and Katherine King and her husband Ron Wanless of New Castle, PA and a brother Patrick King and his wife Tony King of Gassville, AR. The family will be receiving friends at their home on Saturday, November 19 from 1-5pm. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Carcinoid/NeuroEndocrine Foundation, 333 Mamaroneck Ave., Suite 492, White Plains, NY 10605, or to the University of Hartford, Barney School of Business, 200 Bloomfield Ave., West Hartford, CT 06117 or to the Masonicare Partners Home Health and Hospice, 111 Founders Plaza, Suite 200, East Hartford, CT 06118.
