Obituary of Kenneth C. Schneider, MD, MPH

Kenneth C. Schneider, MD MPH, a beloved family physician and esteemed member of the medical community, passed away on July 19, 2024 in Glastonbury, Connecticut, at the age of 88. Born on August 29, 1935, in Rutherford, New Jersey, Kenneth dedicated his life to providing compassionate care to his patients and making significant contributions to the field of preventive medicine.

After completing his medical education, Kenneth embarked on a distinguished career in Private General Practice in Bloomfield, NJ, where he served the community for four years. In 1966 he was drafted and served in the US Public Health Service Commissioned Corps for 27 years. His commitment to excellence led him to become a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice, a Diplomat of the American Board of Preventive Medicine, and a Fellow of the American College of Preventive Medicine. He furthered his expertise by completing a Tropical Medicine Fellowship at Tulane University.

Kenneth's impact extended beyond his medical practice. He was a devoted husband to his loving wife of 64 years, MaryLou (Noble), and a dedicated father to his children Karen A. Cox (Randall), Kenneth J. Schneider (Marie), and Jacquelyn M. Orama (Rolando). He took great joy in his role as a grandfather to eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Kenneth is also survived by his sister Regina Pinglora and brothers Philip and Daniel. He was preceded in death by his son Glen Philip, his parents Philip and Grace, and his sister Ellen.

In addition to his professional achievements, Kenneth had a deep appreciation for nature and enjoyed pursuing hobbies such as hiking, bird watching, and nature photography alongside his beloved wife, MaryLou. After retiring to Cedar Crest, New Mexico, they actively participated in the choir and church ministries at Holy Child Catholic Church and later at St. John XXIll in Florida. They shared their passion for the natural world by leading bird and nature walks with Rio Grande Nature Center State Park and the US Forest Service. Notably, they worked tirelessly to establish a program aimed at attracting rare Rosy-Finches to Sandia Crest, which has since evolved into a significant research project for this species.

A Mass of Christian Burial to honor and celebrate Kenneth's life will be held at St. Dunstan Catholic Church, 1345 Manchester Rd., Glastonbury, Connecticut on Wednesday, July 24 at 10am. Entombment will be held on a later date in Calvary Hill Cemetery in Dallas, TX. His warm smile, compassionate nature, and dedication to his patients and loved ones will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
