Obituary of Matthew Howson

Matt Howson, 52, of Glastonbury, was called to rest on Sunday, February 23rd after a long courageous battle with cancer and heart disease. Matt was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts on January 14, 1962. He was the youngest child of Edward and Catherine Howson. During his life Matt had many accomplishments. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout, an award of which he was very proud. He obtained his Bachelors and Masters Degrees from the University of Hartford where he met his wife Jackie. Together they shared their life of 26 years raising their 2 children, Kevin and Melissa, who were the light of their Dad's life. Matt enjoyed traveling, being outdoors, walking the family's dogs, but most of all enjoyed the many activities of his family. Whether it was cheering on his daughter Melissa playing soccer, basketball, softball, field hockey, or singing in the Glastonbury high school choir, to guiding his son Kevin through Boy Scouts and watching his many accomplishments on stage, he never missed an event. Not even when it meant arriving in a wheel chair. He was a very devoted husband and family man who will be greatly missed. He has been employed by The Hartford for the past 30 years and most recently as Director of Procurement. Matt is survived by his wife Jackie, and their 2 children Kevin and Melissa, his mother Catherine Howson of Pittsfield, MA, his sister and best friend Monica Fowler and her husband Scott of Granby, and his brother Mark Howson and wife Jill of Linwood, NJ. Matt was predeceased by his father, Edward C. Howson of Pittsfield, MA. He is also survived by many brother and sister in laws and nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Friday, February 28th, from 5:00PM - 8:00PM at Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Avenue Glastonbury. A Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 1st at 10:00AM at the Lutheran Church of St. Mark, 75 Griswold St, Glastonbury. Burial will be at Old Church Cemetery, 1345 Main St, South Glastonbury.
