Dear Heidi, Luke, Joanne and family My memories of Dave go back to the Glastonbury orchard days when he and Pete welcomed my dad(Jim)who often helped them sort and pack apples. Dave showed me the art of trimming the fruit trees and would frequently let me collect discarded limbs for firewood. He often kidded me about the time I got his Ford Bronco stuck in the mud while doing some cutting. Dave's visits to our home with fresh fruits and vegetables would lead to chats about life. Fond memories of Dave will always bring a smile to my face. And the 22nd of Feb will hold double significance for me--my mom also passed away this past Wednesday. My sympathies to you all and heartfelt thanks to God for allowing Dave and I to cross paths.

Although we only knew him for less than a quarter of his 83 years we will miss him dearly. Hard working, honest, humble and a true friend - our world was a better place because he was there. Dave, we shared many a Sunday brunch together and we wish there could be more, but you will always have a place at the table and in our hearts. To his family and friends who so wonderfully supported him during the last difficult months - well done.

I first met Dave when I started building the house on land that bordered the orchard. When ever I needed help he was there with a helping hand. One of the incidents which not many know about was a day I was driving past the barn up through the orchard to come home that way. As I went by the barn I heard Dave holler at me, I didn't see him anywhere but stopped and found him on top of the roof. I climbed up the ladder and saw him sitting there hanging on to the roof. He didn't like heights and I don't remember why he climbed up there, but he was fearful and couldn't move. If any of have this fear you will know the situation. We sat and talked on the roof for a while and he realized that he was not going to fall off and finally by me going ahead of him while he backed off the roof we got onto the ladder and down on to firm ground. I made a deal with him to call me when he needed to work on a roof. There are so many great memories from the past 40+ years, to many to write about. I sent an email to our children with the bad news and their replies were that he was such a part of their childhood memories living here. I will miss our conversations but have a life time of great memories. We pass through this life with very few close and treasured friends and I consider that Dave was one of mine.
