The Bustle in a House
The Morning after Death

The Sweeping up the Heart

I just wanted to express my condolences to all of you & your families for the loss of your mom. She was one of my mother's first friends when my mom was pregnant with me. And it was at your mom's house that my mom first went into labor with me. Your mom was throwing a baby shower for mine & that was on December 3, 1964. My mom was only 18 & your mom was about 10 years older but befriended her immediately & they stayed friends for all of these years. I threw my mom a surprise party last year when she turned 70 & we were really happy that your mom was able to come to it. She wasn't feeling so great that day, but she decided to come anyway & it meant a lot to my mom, & to me. As so many others have said here, I remember your mom's twinkle in her eyes & her contagious laugh & warm, welcoming way. I know she really missed your dad & I like to think that they are together again, happy & proud of you & your families. My brother is expecting his first child & I am going to his wife's baby shower tomorrow in New Hampshire which is why I can't attend your mom's service. I am thinking of her & your families & wishing you peace & comfort as you remember her tomorrow & forever more.

Loving thoughts go out to Barbata's family and friends as we grief her loss but celebrate her life! I first met Barbara when she became a Reiki Volunteer at our program at Hartford Hospital about 20 years ago and we became fast friends remaining close ever since. She was a very sweet, wise and loving friend who also had a mischievous twinkle in her eye and we had lots of chuckles and giggles as if we were young girls. I so enjoyed her company whether it was our trips to Mercy by the Sea,short trips to visit our friend Edie on VT and NH, Reiki shares at Kathy J.'s house or just a short visit to SoG's for soup, a picnic chat down by the Glastonbury Ferry, or just a "cuppa" and gab at her house while we watched the birds at her feeder. I know from spending time with her that her husband and family meant everything to her (and how wonderful they were to her) as well as her many forms of benevolent work . I was blessed to be her friend and will truly miss her but know she is at peace!

Dear Family of Barbara,
You all were the soul of her life as she went about helping others. She taught me a lot as we prayed together many years ago when I lived in Glastonbury, attended First Church, sang in the choir, and our kids went to the same schools. I always admired her inclusiveness no matter where she was...always extending her kindness to anyone near. I also championed her causes and she was the one who got others going.
Of course, we can't forget that marvelous sense of humor, though I didn't know about her book, it makes sense! The best healing of all comes with humor and she had a gift for finding it with those dear eyes twinkling as she did. She gave all of us permission to feel more than we might have if we didn't know her or spend time with her.
Thanks for sharing her with so many of us. I may live far away, but the memories of Barbara are near....I can see her serving in the parlor the day of my mother's funeral. What a comfort to have her there.
Use all the wisdom in your own lives to keep that spirit going as we know she will be there, one way or another! ;-)

Dear Thompson family, I had the privilege of knowing your mother for many years while living in Glastonbury. She was an inspiration to me as a member of the First Church of Christ Women's Fellowship where she guided me when I was president. More than that, she was my mentor during my Reiki training. I spent many hours with her during this time and got to know her even more and appreciated her friendship in every possible way.
I send you my deepest sympathies and prayers.
