Obituary of Barbara Lou Thompson

Barbara Lou (Adams) Thompson, 82, of Glastonbury, wife of the late Robert Thompson, passed with peace and grace Sunday January 22, 2017 at home with her family by her side. Born September 15, 1934 in Newark, Ohio, daughter of the late Ernest H. and Mary Louise Adams, she lived in Glastonbury for the past 60 years. She was a loving mother, who gave selflessly as an activist for civil rights, peace and justice for all, an advocate for the vulnerable including people, animals and various causes. She was a life-long member of the First Church of Christ, Congregational in Glastonbury, she served on numerous committees, advisor to Senior High Fellowship, Prayer Group leader, Friday Book Group and was the Church Parish Visitor for many years. Barbara was active in the CT prison rehabilitation programs, a VISTA volunteer, the first Hospice Home Care Volunteer for Glastonbury, Senior Citizen coordinator, certified instructor for LEAD and Stephen Ministry programs and Reiki Volunteer. Barbara was author of the book “Sometimes We Laugh”. She is survived by her four sons and their spouses, David and Judy Thompson, Timothy Thompson, Sam and Tina Thompson, Matthew and Sara Thompson, 7 grandchildren Tyler Thompson, Emily Wood and her husband Dan, Jake and Sammy Thompson, Jamey Wayne and his wife Joelynn, Thomas and Margaret Preston. She is also survived by 2 sisters and their spouses Jane and Peter Richards, Nancy and Albert Eichorn, many nieces, nephews and other “adopted children” and her grand-dog PAR. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held Saturday Feb. 4 at 2:00pm in the First Church of Christ, Congregational, 2183 Main St., Glastonbury. Friends may call at the Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury on Friday Feb. 3 from 4-7pm. If you wish, donations may be made in Barbara’s name to First Church of Christ, Congregational, Hartford Health Care at Home/Hospice of Glastonbury or to a charity of your choice. Our mom will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and dear friend whose greatest passion was helping others. She leaves us rich in memories.
